View the latest post Attachment(s) Is a 27' 1989 CARVER SANTEGO FLYBRIDGE a good 'first boat'?

Howdy, y'all!

I'm looking into getting a 27' CARVER SANTEGO FLYBRIDGE from 1989. Buying from the original owner and it looks clean and well-maintained. I plan on getting it inspected and having a marine mechanic look it all over. The big question is, is this a good first boat? I've never owned a boat before and want something for the family to enjoy on the weekend. It'll be living in a marina nearby.
I'm happy to hear about your experiences and what to look out for in the buying/inspecting process.
What questions should I be asking?

Thank you all

View the latest post Attachment(s) Replace wall covering

I took my cloth wallcovering out of the FWD cabin on my 390, it was old, foam degraded, and stained. Found the leaks by rebidding the railing at chinos. It was a total ball doing that! Anyway I am replacing with no pattern Sea Deck or EVA foam. it has adhesive, but will use contact cement also. has anyone put a piece of 96” x 35” up in one piece? Once it hits the contact cement it is game over.

Also, the portholes. I have removed the screws, but the trim ring will not budge. Any tricks? The outer ring is held on the tabby’s and screws. I wat to get the inner ring off so the foam can go under the trim ring.

Just miffed how to get the entire sheet up with hitting it spot on teh first time, as there is no second chance!

Best,

Tony

View the latest post Head blower fan replacement.

I have a 1988 3227 convertible. The head is supposed to have a blower fan. I removed the grill mounted on the starboard hull amidship below the rub rail and found the squirrel cage fan has seized which is why it doesn’t work. I’ve looked at it every which way and short of ripping the entire head apart to remove the entire bulkhead it’s mounted in I can’t figure out how one is supposed to access this for replacement or repair. Can anyone share some experience please that might help me to repair this.

View the latest post Circuit breaker

Hello carver owners.
My name is Paul and I'm new to the forum.
I have a 1989 carver Montego 2557.
Recently I lost all power to the power outlets on the boat, I turned off all power to the boat and reset the power.
Still no power to the outlets, I reset the circuit breaker, nothing. Tried the power outlet in the bathroom that has a reset button, nothing.
The engines start with np problem.
I have power coming from the dock to the boat, still for whatever reason I'm not getting power to the boat.
I had to run an extension cord to the battery charger to keep the batteries charged.
I have 2 twin 3.7 engines in the boat, these engines have 2 reset buttons. (Red)
My question is, could these 2 engine rest buttons be the fault for my power problems? Or just the circuit breaker on the control panel? Help

Thanks
Paul

View the latest post Electronics to include Autopilot, chartplotter and more

We are looking to install autopilot, a chartplotter, AIS and Radar on our 36' Carver Aft Cabin which is a 1987. Has anyone ever installed this equipment on this type of boat?

Thanks for any input. We are planning on doing the Great Loop.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Hynautic Steering Purge Valve Needed

Left the marina on Sunday for a cruise only to discover no steering as I cleared the slip into heavy dinghy/cruiser traffic in a good breeze. Wiggled around the marina with the engines for a bit and eventually got tied back up. Added some steering fluid and bled the lines. Good to go except I twisted off one of the purge valve nuts on the hynautic reservoir and sheered the bolt off. Luckily it is still operable for now and managed a beauty cruise up to Beausoleil island a classic Georgian Bay sunset. Any leads on finding a new purge valve appreciated. I believe it needs to be rated for 550 psi. The reservoir is a RV 50 or RV 57. May be time to switch to sea star but I just rebuilt both helms last year and in the process accumulated a bunch of spare parts and fittings. Would like to keep it going if I could now that I have a solid knowledge of the system.
Thanks

View the latest post 36 Mariner 2008 Bow Thruster Needs replaced or repaired

Hello, I have a 2008 Mariner second owner. Prior owner had damaged the bow thruster engine with water. It has now stopped working and pulled the bow thruster motor from the boat. Volvo Penta Factory Bow thruster and it seems there is not being produced any longer? Question. Where to find a replacement Bow Thruster Motor or repair to rebuild.

Thanks
Mike

View the latest post Cummins 450 diamond series

Does anyone know if the cummins 450 diesels will continue to run if battery power is cut off.

As I sort through some battery issues I'm wondering what would happen if I lost dc power while engines are running. I know diesels are unlike gas engines, however would loss of power shut off fuel supply automatically or something else that would kill the engines?

Appreciate assistance with this.

Thanks
