View the latest post Attachment(s) Portholes

Went to replace the leaky portholes forward berth. Started to take apart, and son of a gun I never checked the tightness of the dogs that hold the window shut. I removed them, reset the nut and reinstalled and those window are now tight as heck! Rubber gasket was very pliable, so I am going to take a chance.

Also, uncovered the girl today, tomorrow some more canvas sewing, Sunday a little wax on the bridge areas and install the canvas. Yes, getting pretty close!

View the latest post Over heating port engine

Hi all - our new to us port engine ('98 445 with Cummins 6CTA 8.3L Diamond Series, 300 hrs) is overheating when it hits 2,000 rpm. It runs all day 1800 or below but once it hits 2k the temp climbs. Once you back off the throttles and go below 2,000 the temp drops down to 160-180. The prior owner did acknowledge that the impeller broke apart and both he and my mechanic have fished out pieces of it. (we did buy the boat knowing this issues and asked for and received a decent price concession as a result) There is the chance other pieces are lodged someplace and we're looking. Any other thoughts on a possible cause that we're not thinking about? Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Jay

View the latest post Battery charger settings

Hi all- I have a TrueCharge2 40A charger for my 2 8D flooded batteries. We recently bought our boat ('98 445 w/Cummins 8.3L engines). My question is - which Charge Mode is best? The prior owner had it set to "2 Stage" which is Bulk and absorption. The default setting on the charger is "3 Stage" which is Bulk, absorption and float. I don't know why he would use "2 Stage"? It seems to me that "3 Stage" so it's on float would be better. I would appreciate any advice and feedback.
Thanks!
Jay

View the latest post Carver 406 Fresh Water Tank Cap

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can purchase a new cap for our fresh water tank on our 1999 Carver 406? I've purchased two already and they aren't the correct ones.

Thank you very much!

Tony

View the latest post Attachment(s) big problem 454 xl

So I got a deal on a 1993 Carver 350 aft cabin the Starboard engine wasn't properly winterized , as a result there is a crack in the block. I am fully Capable of Rebuilding this engine .. the challenge would be getting it out ... and fixing or Replacing the block.... so my Question is can i used a 454 block from a Chevy truck from around that same time. replacing the Cam of course? using all the other leaving the pistons and other parts? or can this even be Welded

View the latest post Attachment(s) 50 foot Carver...sinks...

The Coast Guard says the 50-foot Carver Yacht called Nauti Dream was starting to sink and the crew called 911. They also hailed the Coast Guard for help on VHF Channel 16, but didn’t respond to Coast Guard callouts on the radio.
Local first responders located the cell phone that called 911 near Buoy 62 in the Chesapeake Bay, off Northumberland County in Virginia’s Northern Neck.

Sure would like to know more...why it sank for one..(well yeah...took on water)
But why? Hit something??

View the latest post Attachment(s) Gas engine tachometers

Hi Fellas, has anyone else got this problem with the tachometers? The port engine tachometer doesn’t work at the bridge, but works fine at the lower control station. I haven’t checked the input wiring to see if the tachometer gets its power from the distributor, or from the alternator. I was thinking about just taking the tachometer from the lower station and swapping it with the tachometer from the bridge station.
I guess that the first thing to do is to check the wiring of the lower station tachometer and compare it to the bridge tachometer.
Anyway, if anyone has had this problem, any information would be much appreciated!
