View the latest post Replacement or repair of Stern Bench on 1988 Santego 30

Newbie move. Second time docking and swung stern wide and clipped neighboring boat's anchor on the stern bench. The port side bench mounting tore out (of the soft wood) and upholstery was torn

Is it even reasonable to find a replacement bench for this vintage? Any suggestions for repair/replace? Are there specialty marine furniture shops? I am in Chicago.

I'm reasonably handy and based on the damage, I think I could do the following for the structure of the bench:
* remove as much rotted wood on the arm mounting points
* add wood hardener (epoxy) to the remaining exposed wood in the arm
* mount a suitable size piece of marine plywood to replace the fixed with through dowels and additional epoxy
* drill horizontal holes in the mounting points
* add prong nuts
* seal up the added plywood (more hardener??)
* re-staple upholstery

It's more important to me that the structure of the bench is solid. The damaged upholstery could be patched over for now.

View the latest post 1988 Santego 30 - Throttle position to engage reverse is very very far back

The throttle position to engage reverse appears to be very far into the travel. It has made getting into reverse with small amount of thrust difficult. I don't have a picture but the position for engagement is somewhere near 60 deg of the travel.

Is this normal for Mercruiser Alpha I/O drives in the 1988 Santego 30? If not, what would I start looking into adjusting? Is this a cable age, cable maintenance issue? Is it reasonable to start looking into this issue while boat is still in the water?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Shaft seal leaking - cost of replacement.

I found water leaking from the starboard shaft seal on my 2000 396 aft cabin. Can anyone give me an idea for the cost of replacing the shaft seal? Of course, we have to pull the boat but I want to know the fair price for the replacement. Thanks.

By the way, we temporarily stopped the leak.

View the latest post 1977 carver specs/schematics

Good morning
I have a ‘77 carver 22’ camper I am working on restoring. I have already reported it now I am getting into the nitty gritty. I am looking for specs on the plumbing, sinks, bilge, etc. I am also looking for wiring diagrams. This boat is in good shape but I want to make it nice (helps in getting the wife and kids out for over nights). I am located in San Diego and any/all help is appreciated.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Calling all Carver 38 SS owners

Hi,
I was wondering if you could give a fellow Carver 38 SS owner a hand? I have a cracked window on the port side and need to replace it. I think the same panes of glass have been replaced on both the starboard and port side. I say that because the dots (frits) are decals and not painted on and baked like all the other windows. I was wondering if you could check your window and see if it's baked on frits dots or decals? It's driving me nuts on why this window cracked and if they have been replaced before. I have added a few pics of what I am talking about.

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) New owner of a 1988 4207

My wife and I just upgraded from our 1978 Seafarer 38' to a 1988 Carver 4207. We had been on the hunt for a power boat to call home for the last year and when she saw the interior of the 4207 she fell in love. Just brought it home on a 300 mile trip from NC to VA and couldn't be happier with our decision. Hope to make some connections on here and share in the knowledge of these boats.

View the latest post Grease Fitting 360 Trojan Express

I have a 360 Trojan Express and want to grease my steering fittings in the stern area. The fitting is a bit larger than a regular grease fitting. Does anyone know the correct size and where one could find that fitting? Thanks for any help provided. Steve

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1994 390CPMY water heater replacement

Been getting water in the forward and center bilge, and looks everywhere except the right place. Had a decent amount in the bilge wheel we were gone 1.5 hours. Touched the water and it was HOT. Saw a wet pot in front of the heater, so the original heater has given up the ghost. Anyone every replace one? Has a rear heat exchanger connection, and am looking for same. Doesn’t look too bad. OF course, we were planning a weekend away and a week for labor day. Hope to be able to replace next saturday, but we shall see. Looks a bit tight.
