New owner and can't figure out the two dimmer switches for the salon lights. Previous owner told me push once and release then hold the up side until light come on and adjust to the desired brightness. Tried both and can't get either to come on at all. What am I missing?? Thanks

- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Hi Guys , I bought last December a 2006 Carver mariner 36 .
The boat has the 5.7 volvo penta engines .
The survey found no issues with the boat .
The engines both have 300 hours on them .
As it was stored in a heated place 2 hours away from location , I brought over the water to my home .
My problem is that both engines only make 3200 rpm and then stull out .
When I reading correctly the engines should make 5500 rpm .
As I ask a mechanic ,he said it could be the wrong probs .
But it still shut off on me , even in neutral at 3200 .
If it would be the gas pumps, then either off the engines would shut off at diffrent idel.
Any one out here no what my problem is ,or if it is from carver restricted in the beginning.
Thanks for any input

View the latest post Attachment(s) Renewing old cabin lights
- Posted by: km1125 » June 23rd, 2022, 3:40 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
In the cabin of my 3607, I had several of the lights below. They worked great, especially after I changed out the light bulbs from incandescent to LED, but the plastic shade had yellowed quite a bit (as in pic).
I bought a couple sections of white plastic tubing and made new shades for all the lights on my boat. I sold that boat, but still have some pieces of that plastic tubing. It's thicker than the original, but like-new white color and the old shades can be changed out to these pieces, although you do have to cut and re-splice the wiring to the light to do so.
So, my question is to any of you folks that might have the same type lights and want to keep them.... are you interested in some replacement shades?? I could cut and drill the pieces so all you'd have to do is take the old fixture down, disco the wires, swap the shade then resplice and remount the fixture. Let me know if there's any interest.

A boating friend has an issue with his fridge working only on 110. The 12 volt side is not working. Any ideas where to start checking and chance of finding parts?

Recently purchased a 2000 450 and looking for suns shade options for the aft area. Anyone find a retailer that makes a good option? Prefer to have it attach at the rails behind the fly bridge and extend to the back connecting to the rod holders. Thx!

View the latest post Shore power (No power)
- Posted by: claytonandresen » June 22nd, 2022, 9:05 am
- Forum: Electrical
I have a 2004 Carver Mariner.
Yesterday when I went to my slip I noticed everything was off (connected to shore power)
Did the usual:
Checked breakers (nothing was tripped)
Checked plug (no black marks- looked fine)
Reset everything
Plug into a different shore power unit (still no power)
Generator runs everything fine- but when I switch to shore power it has 0 amps and the shore power green light doesn’t illuminate.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

View the latest post 1996 Voyager 320 - RPM & Planning Issues
- Posted by: dkguimond » June 21st, 2022, 10:42 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Hi all,
New to the forum and will appreciate any help.
Purchased our Voyager several years ago and have always had issues with it getting up on plane.
Believe the engines are Cruisader 350 XL, 260 hp.
In 2020 blew the Starboard engine, reason was never determined (except it happened right after the carburator and timing was tuned by mechanic).
Decided to rebuild both engines because I didn't want an offset in the throttle. All went reasonably well, got up on plane for the 1st time ever - mechanic put in 750 double pumper Brawlers (vehicle carburetor). The issue became oil pouring out everywhere, rocker arms burning up and found out the wrong size rods had been used with small pieces of washers found under valve covers.
Found a new mechanic and rebuilt for the 2nd time. Engines run great but max RPM is 2900, should 4000 - 4400, as a result can't get up on plane.
Have tested all possible mechanical issues. Have pulled it out and bottom painted, put in rebuilt carburetors (Rochesters). Have spent more money than anyone even imagine.
Really love the boat but need to get to the bottom of the issue.
Props are 18 × 18, have been told by the prop guy to try 14 x 12, again more money spent without knowing if it will work.
Loaded boat weight is 18,000 lbs. Gear ratio is 1:1. WOT is 10 knots at 2900 rpm
Anyone have any other ideas, I'm at my witts end!

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
hi,
It's been 25 years since I last participated in a board.
I hardly remember how this works.
I only just shook hands on the deal... I know I love her, she is 33' long, and her engines just leap to life.
I wore my Chris-Craft t-shirt to the meeting!.
I have now ordered a new Carver tee.
Do I need anything else?
So, my signature will include, as suggested, appropriate info as I gather it.
For instance, as a new Carver owner, I am not versed in model names.
Interestingly, the seller never mentioned one...
I've owned 2 Chris-Crafts: 35' Cavalier and 38' Connie. I currently own a Bayliner Victoria that I am NOT in love with.
I am already in love with my Carver, at first sight. I gotta figger out the model name.

I have been looking at this, and wanted to know if anyone did it themselves? Also, I will be doing Flybridge and Aft deck, all covered. Material says it has a 5 to 7 year life span. Any comments? I would hate to install and have a mess removing it.

We spent a rough night aboard last night. Was pretty stormy. The only issue was the noise of the dock lines. Any ideas or solutions to silencing these? Should we use woven instead of braided? Something under them where it meets the fiberglass?
Thanks for the suggestions and the Admiral will also thank you,
