View the latest post EC200 Control bugs

Good afternoon all. I have been posting about my Cummins QSM11 engines not reaching full RPM. Specifically on the starboard side. I have had Cummins techs replace the starboard ECM and verified the engines are in good shape. This weekend I had a very strange incident. While starting the engines, after pressing the button on the throttle control, I tried to start the port engine first. When I turned the port key, the starboard engine started then the port started when I turned the starboard key. The port engine has not been wanting to start and I have been holding the button down while I turn the key to get it started.

Just two new symptoms to add to the lack of RPM on starboard side. Any ideas? I will be looking into switching the connections

View the latest post Generator Problems

I've owned my 1997 Carver 440 for 3 years now and only recently I started having issues with the generator. It's a Kohler generator. It has 1,700 hours on it and I have everything serviced annually. We are on a fresh water lake in Texas.

My generator has done a great job since I've owned the boat. In the past month, I've had issues with it shutting down. It will run for 30 minutes and then it will cut off. I've checked the breaker for the generator, down in the aft cabin closet, and it was tripped. I pushed it back in and started the generator and it cut off after a few minutes. Sometimes the breaker trips and sometimes it doesn't. I can get the generator started 3 or 4 times. It'll run for a few minutes then it won't start at all. The starter just tries to crank it but it won't start.

I did have some water in my port side fuel tank, that caused my port engine to sputter. It also runs the generator, but I've treated the fuel with HEET and the port engine runs fine now. But I still have the generator issue.

View the latest post Inverter Install help on 2003 396

I'd like to put in a 3000w inverter (Can Tire sine). This boat has Cummins diesels in it so mounting this inverter in
the engine room shouldn't be a problem (spark arrestor??).

Trouble is that I cannot find a way from the TV/AC area on the starboard side down to the engine room. I can
see wiring and hoses but no apparent opening in the engine room. Fuel tanks and shaft is in the way from me
really getting in there but I'll figure out a way.

Anyone know of a way to the engine room for 4 4gage cables?

Thanks

View the latest post Attachment(s) Help sorting Riviera plumbing issues 2

I posted last year about trying to find the leak in my (Riviera) water system. I took another stab at it this weekend and found the problem. now I need to find the solution. The pics below show the tank (could not identify the brand), the problem valve, and the faulty piece that I presume is meant to prevent water from spurting out the valve at the base of the tank. I do not understand how the plumbing is supposed to work, nor what the function of this valve is, but what was hapening is the black tubing attached to this valve was led into the aft bilge and was freely spurting water from the tank when the pump is activated. So I need to replace the faulty piece, I think. Any wisdom to assist in fixing this - including possible source for the part, or explanation of the function of this valve, much appreciated. Wll be wonderful to have a hot shower!

Does anyone know the height with the bridge canvas removed? I need to get the height to get a shipping quote for a boat that I am considering purchasing

View the latest post Attachment(s) Power Central

To some this would not fly. However, it is only myself and the bride. SO, I have my battery charger status and also condition and aux aft bilge pump mounted on teh side of teh steps coming up from teh aft cabin to the salon. I can look at it easily to see what is going on. Other side has the inverter and the water capacity gauge.

View the latest post 1988 Santego - Foam Core of "Skeg" Saturated

My boat was on the hard all last year due to a soft spot that developed directly under the second aft most block. The fiberglass basically delaminated in this location and pouched out with the weight of the boat.

Some holes were drilled last year in an effort to dry the fiberglass over the winter. Not enough, evidently.

This year, we've ground down the surface and it remains wet. A moisture meter was borrowed from one of the surveyors in the yard and the fiberglass was deemed still too wet to repair.

I took a look myself and there was a 'salty' smell to the area. I saw salt staining on the wood blocks adjacent to the ground area and drill holes. Knowing that salt can absorb moisture from humid air, I did my best to wash the salt off. This boat has been in the great lakes a long time but I know she was originally from New York so I assume salt water at some point in her past. Surprised it is still there, but who knows.

We then ground a larger hole into the 'skeg' for lack of a better term. The foam core is totally soaking. I stuck my knife into it and twisted, and water came dripping out.

I was under the impression that Carver's were solid fiberglass below the water line but I can confirm this is not the case with my boat.

The plan now is to cut a much larger hole in the 'skeg', dig out as much saturated foam and fill the whole thing with filler and glass over.

Thoughts?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Hera E1 Halogen Light cover rings

My 2001 396 Aft Cabin has Hera E1 lights though-out.... about 30 of them. Half the cover rings are crack, missing the locking teeth, etc. I looked for new rings and came up with nothing. Looks like they were discontinued in favor the their LED series back in 2015. I have already switched from the halogen bulbs to LEDs but would like to replace the rings. Has anyone found a solution? Other rings that may fit?, 3D print? I am open to ideas, and don't really want to spend the $50-$100 per fixture to replace working lights. I know I could buy the bulk amazon LEDs units, but I don't trust the quality for marine use....

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Russ
