View the latest post Attachment(s) ‘79 Mariner 28 on Lake Ontario!

Picked up this 1979 Mariner 28 last fall and I’m finally in my slip in Irondequoit Bay (Lake Ontario) just outside of Rochester NY. I spent most of my years with one of Crestliners last closed bow boats, a Sabre, but I finally decided to find something my family can spend
the nights on. For its age the boat is in remarkable condition and has very few problems. Spent the winter replacing cracked railing bases (what a pain), refinishing teak and building new teak bulkhead walls on the back of the boat. Inside of the boat is min with new carpeting and all newish upholstery. Its a single screw inboard crusader 270, so let’s just say the tight navigation of the marina has been a little challenging, lol! Still working on reversing with any control… Despite my lack luster boat control, I love the boat and can’t wait to spend some real time exploring with her. Glad to join the club1

View the latest post Drive pins/Shear pins QL 1200

With those with this model thruster....what material are your drive pins made of? I am speaking of the shear pins that are at the base of the props. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone used a slip in silencer to help reduce the noise?

Or any better ideas to help quiet our crusader 454's?

thanks

View the latest post Need prop specs

I have a 1989 Carver 3207 (aft cabin). In loading it onto a trailer with a stiff beam wind I managed to chew up the starboard prop, which I now need to replace. It's an 18" DynaQuad 4-blade bronze prop (mfg part number DQ4B18B). I know the shaft size and the rotation but I need to know the pitch before I can order a new one. It hit the water before I could check the numbering on the port prop, and at ~$1,000 I'm not prepared replace them both so that they match! :-O

Please advise if you know the proper pitch. Thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1989 3207 Aft Cabin seawater pump inlet thru hull valve

1989 3207 Aft cabin twin 5.7 Mercs Port seawater pump inlet.

1. Please see attached photo of port engine, the red handle thru hull connection. Is this the inlet for the seawater pump?

2. The port engine turns over clockwise when looking from aft to forward. Is this (the port engine) right hand or left hand turning.
Thank you for the help...

View the latest post Attachment(s) Change Gear Oil in IPS 500 Drive Unit

As the subject states, I am getting close to time to change the drive oil.
It was done while the boat was out for hauling and bottom paint the last time so that was easy enough out of the water.
The manual states that you can change in the water with a pump and adapter fitting.
Question is - what adapter fitting and pump do I need to purchase. I can't find anything on the web or in the manual that has a part number or any details.

I hate to pay to pull the boat along with the 30 mile run each way to the lift.
Would like to be able to do it myself as I do all my other maintenance.

Thanks,
Tony

View the latest post Windlass power issues

My 2000 396 aft cabin has a problem retrieving the anchor. Although the Maxwell Freedom windlass operates when the switch is operated, it is necessary to assist the windlass with the handle in order to get the anchor onto the boat.

I replaced the solenoid pack at the recommendation of a Maxwell rep. The problem still exists. Any thoughts on a cause of this problem and/or a solution?

I have asked an electrician to take a look but he has not yet been able to get to the boat.

Thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Cylinder Head Replacement

I have a 2000 356 Aft cabin with twin 7.4L Mercruiser gas inboard drives. The port engine needs a new, or rebuilt cylinder head. My mechanics are trying to source through Mercruiser, but tiiming keeps getting pushed out. Any ideas on other options to source a Mercruiser head?

Thanks,

View the latest post 1998 405 dinghy

Anyone with this model have a dinghy on the swim platform? Looking for suggestions mostly in regards to max length, weight, etc. and your experiences. We do not have a dinghy yet but the boat currently has Weaver davits designed to flip the dinghy up on its side. Would prefer to get a dinghy and davits where you do not have to remove everything from the dinghy....motor, fuel tank, etc. Mounting the outboard and storing everything somewhere doesn't sound appealing. I understand weight is a major factor and not sure where to start. Any input is greatly appreciated.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Wanted Gauges for '76 era Mariner

For some reason all of my Port side gauges are either very inaccurate or not functioning. Tach will not drop to Zero no matter what, voltage always over reads etc. I've checked voltage at alt and battery and even at back of gauge so I'm confident it's gauge issues. I know it had the wrong voltage regulator on that engine when I got the boat so I'm thinking that's what fried them. If anyone has some they're willing to part with please let me know.
Thanks everyone
