View the latest post Headliner Repair

I have a 2001 Carver 396. I need to repair a portion of the vinyl headliner in the aft cabin. I received a $9,000 quote from a guy who was going to redo the ceiling using formica. I thought this was too high so I want to explore options for doing it myself. My current thought is to create two panels that run from side to side. This refreshes the ceiling and provides me with access to wiring, etc that is currently covered by the vinyl.

The shape is a trapezoid that is ~32" on each side; ~75" in the front; and ~80" at the other end. I am thinking about using marine vinyl with spray-on contact cement over formica for the two panels. This gives some rigidity and keeps a consistent vinyl look. I would trim it out with wood finished to match the existing Carver wood interior. My second option is to do the whole section with wood (probably tongue & grove sections) and finish it like the current interior. If I go the second route I don't think I will have the same access panel capability.

I appreciate your feedback, especially if it a simplier approach!

View the latest post 2000 450 Voyager Needs

In process of purchasing a 2000 450 Voyager and need a few items.

1) Needs a full helm/flybridge cover. The snaps are in place around the helm but no cover. Is this something I can get from a traditional cover mfg or should I go to a local canvas shop?

2) The middle access plate on the flybridge arch is missing. Any clue where to find one?

Any advice welcome!

View the latest post Attachment(s) New - 1997 Carver 405, (gas) Crusader 454HO

So glad I found this group. Just closing on 1997 Carver 405. Survey went very well with no major issues. One engine smoking a bit, some say possibly injectors need a cleaning. I would like to start upgrades immediatly by replacing carpet. I am in the Chattanooga area and looking for any suggestions, good or bad experience.

My wife and I have owned many boats over the years. This is our first Carver. No plans for loop or coast cruising. Mostly likely just lake and moderate river trips, so I hope the 454s will do the trick. Im sure at some point I will wish I had Diesel.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Raritan water heater connections

I just replaced the original hot water tank in our Santa Cruz 2866 with new 6 gallon Raritan with heat exchanger and connected hoses from engine the same way they were on the old one
image.jpg
where it says engine heating in old diagram, the top hose connection went to the front of the engine, the bottom went to the top of the engine.
The new heater has much more separate ports, and I assumed the hose coming from the front of the engine would be the supply and the return would be going to the top of the engine. But after running engine, the lower heat exchange hose heats up before the upper, which makes me think I am wrong. The supply should go to the upper port on the tank says the instructions, and if so does it make a big enough difference for me to gush coolant out again and switch them?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Side Shifter Istall

After the ventrifigo install I was ready to take on more responsibility of the Sideshift install. LOTS of putting against the hull, measuring, second guessing. Props were to be 5” below water line at minimum. I have them set about 6.5”. I got a LOT of crap from a group I belong to “Buzzards Bay Boaters” Tough crowd. I have also attached a transcript of those comments.

After marking things out, I took down the bottom paint behind the flange and as little as possible. Drilled the holes, and filled them with Silkaflex and bolted it up. Then a dab or two on top of the screws. They are all hidden behind the mounting cover. Mounted up the sideshift, and drilled for the cables to go into the hull. I am so so surprised at the sturdiness of the 2 screw mount. Now I have to place the top cover over and add the top mounting bolt. Yes, it looks a little funky (I took a lot of heat about this, trust me. I can’t see how people are saying “insurance will void you due to the ed on” it is too dangerous to use (LOl, it is used i short bursts when docking. I think I have 2 24” bronze wheels turning with 325 HP each. This little squirt has 3.5 HP a side on a 7” prop. ANYWAY, wiring will be done in a few weeks when I am at the slip. Note the comments and it looks better than it is, that cover makes a huge difference, although not on in these pictures.
