View the latest post Attachment(s) Malber Washer Replacement

All:

I thought I would share this in case it can help someone else out in the future.

I recently purchased a 530 Voyager Pilothouse. About a month ago the Malber washing machine died. After failed attempt to find replacement parts for the washer, I decided to replace it.

The problem is that the door to the master stateroom is 20" wide. I could find no front loading washing machines that could fit through the door.

I'll spare all the attempted solutions that failed and cut to the finale: If you are in the same situation, purchase an "Equator" washer (I got mine off amazon for $1,100. I'll post the link to the amazon page here, but it will almost certainly stop working in a month or two. Equator 1.6 Cubic Foot Compact Washer. Part number ‎EW 824 N

If you remove the top panel, the back casing, the power cord, and push the drain hose into the casing, it fits through the stateroom door (barely).

We also removed the concrete counter weight on top of the drum. It makes it much easier to lift over the various "pinch points" from the aft deck, down the stairs, into the stateroom.

Attached is a picture of the new washer sitting next to the old Malber dryer.

Hope this helps someone out. Merry Christmas!

Dave

View the latest post Boat Insurance

I need to get boat insurance for a boat I brought to Florida recently as my Michigan Insurer will no longer cover me. It's a 2005 360 Carver Mariner which is kept at a marina on the west coast of Florida. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 3227 and Garmin Striker 9SV

hello fellas. I am trying to install a brand new GPS unit to my 3227. I thought striker vivid 9sv was a great deal for about $500 on black Friday. I am not a fisherman. Just need to see where I'm going and the depth since I am mostly in Gulf ICW by freeport, TX, and the channels are very shallow at the edges.

My dilemma is that I have two helms. I am sure I can purchase an extra power/data cable and additional mount for the 9SV online. Is there a correct way of installing these cables or do I just daisy chain the cables and move the unit up/down from flybridge to interior helm depending on where I am driving from?

Second question. There appears to be a "Standard communications corporation - DS30 depth sounder" installed and working in the lower helm. On the upper helm, I have a mount for a legacy hummingbird fishfinder without the unit - just the mount. Can I use the transducer already installed with my Garmin - Any knowledgable GPS fellas :) feel free to answer. I cannot seem to locate the actual transducer yet but I have only had the boat for a week or so.

View the latest post Carver 444 waste discharge pump

Good morning,
I recently purchased a 2004 Carver 444 and I am slowly getting aquainted with my boat. I have been trying to locate my waste discharge pump and valves with out success. The manual shows that the aft pump should be under the bed on port side and the forward under the salon. Ther is also not a braker in the panel for either. Is it possible that I do not have a discharge pump at all.

thanks in advance for all your assistance.

View the latest post Attachment(s) New to me Carver 3227. Questions about v-drive & Generator - owners please help

Hello Guys. I recently acquired a 1988 Carver 3227 (previously erroneously called 3207 by me) convertible. seems to have been very well kept. I purchased this for cruising in the ICW by freeport TX and up Old Brazos river for fun.

1. Starboard V-drive is not apparently leaking from anywhere visibly on the floor (I have not done a diaper/towel test below v-drive yet) but it loses pretty much ALL oil on the dipstick quickly. Found no oil when I bought it, filled it - was docked for 10 days, then I drove it 41 miles (4 hrs trip and light came on after 38 miles about 3.85 hours of running - it was bone dry again). I have a feeling it takes only 1-2 quarts total anyway. NO water in drive - just bone dry. Any suggestions?

2. Genset is driving me nuts. In my Viking, there is a transfer switch so you turn on genny, warm it up and then transfer from shore power to Genset. Here I have a toggle on the panel marked "generator". If you toggle it, Genset cranks but it won't start. I hear a relay clicking behind the panel too but I am not sure why it's not starting, Is it because the boat is plugged into shore? or do I need to do something else? both tanks are over half-full (learned on previous 03 carver 396 that less than a quarter tank = no Genset start). Is there another switch somewhere? Can someone with a 3207 chime in, :banghead: please.

View the latest post Carver Allegra 2587 Fridge Replacement Ideas

Hi All! Thanks for having me! i bought a pristine little 1990 Allegra and virtually the only thing in the galley that didn’t work was the top loading little fridge. I am hoping to pull it out during the off season, which doesn’t seem complicated, and drop in a replacement. I wonder if anyone has done this before and has any suggestions as to where to look/advice. Thanks!!

View the latest post Future owner of Carver 444

Hello all,

Just starting to get used to the idea of buying a real boat (everything else has been<20 ft). Planning on getting a 444 after my daughter graduates high school in two years. Will be selling the house and using the proceeds to buy it. We will be doing the great loop and possibly the carribean if I can talk the admiral into it. So far she has agreed to the loop, but is afraid of pirates to go further.
