View the latest post Use of dry gas

I would appreciate any experience/recommendations with the application of dry gas. We are able to buy gasoline on the street and fuel our boat at the transient dock. There is a fellow in our marina with a 100 gal tank in the bed of a pick up truck who graciously allows members to use it.

Thoughts about adding dry gas, and is so, how much? Our tanks hold 165 gals. each.

Thanks

View the latest post 94 Santego 310 aft deck engine covers

Hello, looking for advice on repairing or replacing the delaminated engine area covers? Is there knowledge of anyone who performs these repairs or constructs replicas, or should I make one out of HDPE plastic sheet? I’ve got the balsa cores out of two, but the middle one won’t budge and it’s beginning to crack hard. Thanks!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 3867 Portlight

Hello,
Looking to replace the portlights on our Carver and it was suggested that I post a picture. Talked with Bomar and they said I need to know the series of the portlights. Thank for any insight given.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Discoloration on TAMD 75

hello All, quick question, going to survey on a 2004 466 in a couple weeks, but saw this 'discolored area' / overheated? area on 1 of the engines, and wondering what that might be?

Maybe others have seen this same thing and figured it out or have a theory about it?

Please see pic attached, any ideas/recos? Thanks much

View the latest post New Riviera 2807 Owner

Howdy folks!,

My wife, Liz (also new on this forum) and I have ourselves a 1985 Riviera 2807 that has captured our hearts but likely seen better days. We bought her at the end of the 2019 season and our first task was to get it out and stored. Sadly, the marina we used did not properly winterize it so we lost the entire 2020 boating season waiting; not only to COVID, but waiting for Crusader engines to be rebuilt and 4 manifold rebuilds. So now we have nicely rebuilt engines, it's on to the next projects: Replace canvas, find replacements for 4 of the plastic porthole windows and start replacing other systems, starting with plumbing.

We have a canvas guy coming but sure could use help from you experienced CYOs with the rest. For example, I have had no luck yet finding replacement plexi porthole windows. About half of ours are yellowed, cracked or just plain busted. Four are pretty messed up and need outright replacement. Thoughts are appreciated.

View the latest post 1989 Carver 3607 - A/C and generator

Hey All,

My name is Brian and I am the proud owner of a new to me, 1989 Carver 3607. It's an amazing vessel. I grew up watching this boat float past my house when I was young and I always wanted one. One day the clouds aligned and I bought one. It needs some TLC for sure.

The last owners didn't do much up keep and I have spent months cleaning it. Now for the big stuff. You never know until it's yours all the things that need to be fixed and/or replaced due to the boats age.

The first thing I noticed is the A/C (all three) just blows out hot air. Am I missing something? Do these units just need charging due to their age? Is there a magic switch or lever that I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As well, I noticed that the generator isn't working properly either. The boat sat idle last summer and the generator was never turned on for about 3 years (I have been told). I am afraid to see what happens when I turn it on.

My boat neighbor told me that the fuel pump needs replacing (but that was with the old owner). I have also been told that Generators hate sitting dormant and that lots can go wrong if not used every so often.

Should I pop the switch and see what happens or should I have a professional look at it first? Where can I find such a professional to fix? My boat is in the Kingston, Ontario, Canada region. Thanks again in advance for any help and I hope to be able to help out when I can.

View the latest post Carver 466 Motor Yacht Documentation Problem

We have purchased a 2006 Carver 466 Motor Yacht. We are the third owners and the boat has never been documented. We are trying to do this now. All of the application forms require that the Overall length, Beam and Overall depth be provided. I have the numbers for the length and beam. The overall depth number is driving me nuts. I have tried to obtain it from the previous owners, the selling broker, Carver and a few dealers as well as the Coast Guard. No one can help me. Without this information I can not submit the documentation request.

So, if someone with a documented Carver 466 motor yacht would look at their Certificate of Documentation and let me know what the number is in the "Depth" box, I would really appreciate it.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Installed wireless remote helm on 506

My wife and I are really enjoying our 506. It was a move up from a SeaRay 44DB which is 7 feet shorter and 20,000 lbs lighter and was much easier to maneuver and dock than the Aft Cabin 506. My wife was not comfortable with line handling on the 44 and she has no interest in helping to land the 506. We have a down wind side tie and the 506 has a lot of windage. On the 44 I looked into installing a Dock Mate or Yacht Controller but the 12, to 15 grand price tag was not justifiable so I developed my own. The wireless remote made it so much easier to single hand as I could be anywhere on the deck and dock the boat with ease and tie off on my own while my wife relaxed with the guests.
When we bought the 506 I had the intension of installing a remote to make single handing the boat possible as well but the Volvo EDM controlled drives provided a technical obstacle to the remote installation. After some consultation with great contacts I have in the electronic engineering field we came up with a work around and I was able to install my remote. Now getting the boat to the dock and secured is stress free. I shared the low cost system Idea with the Sea Ray community and several owners installed the systems on their boats. I thought I would share the idea here. The system is easiest to adapt to Cummins powered vessels with bow and/or stern thrusters with analog electric drives. It will not work with boats with shift cables although it can be installed for just thruster control. If anyone would like to investigate the viability of installing one on your boat, feel free to PM me.
Cheers
