View the latest post Attachment(s) Bringing the Old Wood Back to Life

I only have a couple posts here so far but I've been working on our 2827 non stop since we bought it in early April.

All new exhaust/cooling on the port side (starboard is in process now)
New distributors
New fuel pump
New ignition wiring
New Norcold
New outlet added to forward closet for TV in stateroom
New Raptor (like SeaDek) flooring going on the bridge TODAY! (excited)

But my most enjoyable project has been working the wood. It was very dull and grey at first. It really helps give the deck a much prettier and 'pulled together' look. Plus every time I get a stain out of the fiber glass, or bring an old small piece of wood back to life, it shows me the next thing I need to do. and the next thing.... and the next thing.... lol

I'm loving the endless list of projects on this vessel.

Little before and after:

View the latest post Attachment(s) 2000 Carver 350 Mariner portlight window

Hi! We have a broken starboard portlight window on our 2000 350 Mariner that we need replaced. The parts manual shows what is in the "portlight" image attached and it's obviously #11. Then the part number page ("parts" attached image) is missing #11!!! Seriously! I'm sure someone at Carver is laughing at me right now.

Anyone know what the real part number is for that and have an idea as to where I can get one? I went here, and this looks like it, but would like to be certain.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Chris

View the latest post Need muffler/ fumes advices

We took the muffler off to hoist the engine and change the transmission

Now everything is put back together and I have (what I think) is excessive fumes and noise coming from the port engine.

I open the hatch and everything is perfect, no fumes, smoke or anything out of order

Everything comes out of the back exhaust just above water level

Note the Starboard side is much quieter and no fumes at all

I have no idea of what it should be like as I just bought the boat and can only compare it to the starboard engine

They are crusader 454's

Any advice, knowledge would be appreciated

Should the muffler have water in it?
If so, Was I suppose to put some in before I connected everything back up?
Is there a baffle inside that could be bad?

Thanks
Steve

View the latest post Attachment(s) 410 Sport Sedan 8.1 Horizon performance question

Hello everyone I'm wondering if anyone has specific experience with a 410 Sport Sedan with 8.1's to provide some baseline data for me to compare to. I've seen numbers suggesting 17-18 knots for best cruise and 26 knots WOT. With fuel burn around 1.5 gallons per mile. I'm finding 18 knots feels solid and smooth but I'm only getting. .39 Nautical Miles Per Gallon which seems excessive even for this behemoth and half what it was speed at.... Engines run great. I have recently installed Fox engine gateways and have included the outputs while running 4k rpms.
Loving the boat but don't hate money so if I'm wasting a bunch I'd love to sort that out early on.

View the latest post Attachment(s) AC Vent Repairs Parts

We have a 2005 Carver 56 Voyager, and we have to remove the AC vents on the steps from the Pilot House to the bridge. In doing so, the small white clips that hold the vent grid in broke. Anyone know where to get replacements?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 1996 Santego 38 - Identification?

Hello - my brother-in-law's dad just bought what he described as a '96 Santego 38. He is very experienced in sailing vessels (over 20 years) and decided to buy a more comfortable boat to go to Catalina (still needs to find a slip - right now in Long Beach). I'm a complete noob but in the planning/dreaming stages of getting a Nordhavn 55. So I've been consuming large amounts of information over the past several years on all things boating.

I'll be helping him as much as I can since he is a great guy who asked me for some help, and I want to also have hands-on ANY boat - so this is a great win-win. I am planning on heading down there this week but wanted to get some preliminary research so that I can know where to start. While looking at the manuals page, there is no Santego 38 listed for '96. Can anyone suggest a manual that I should download or a better way of identifying it? I'll probably have a better way of doing it once I'm there, but would be nice to start looking at some info before I get down there (I love manuals).

My goal/approach to helping him will be to focus on the following (in order):

1 - Propulsion - if I understand it correctly, fuel pumps are being replaced as part of the sale (gas powered Crusaders). Parts had to come from Germany and mechanic is either doing it currently or will be doing it soon. This was part of the survey items that were identified. Will take a look at what else the survey says as soon as I can. Once I download manual then I can hopefully identify engine components and possible inspection points.

2 - Safety - Inventory safety components (and condition) and create list of items needed (EPIRB, AIS, Nav, Radar, PFDs, Ditch bag, etc.)

3 - Plumbing - Take a look at how gray water/black water is routed and see condition. I'm a big proponent of the thought of replacing all hoses, but will defer to any comments here (reality of access, ease, cost, etc.)

4 - Comfort - Inventory all mechanical systems related to environmental and energy. I know it has a generator, but no info yet on what it powers, how it powers it, what sort of battery system it has and what it does. Hence the need to read manuals ;) Additionally, create list of items to upgrade/change including all LED's, etc.

5 - Docking/Anchoring - inspect all lines, rodes and mechanical systems related to docking/anchoring. Likely get new chain.

6 - Training - He already agreed that hiring a training captain for a day or two on boat handling will be money well spent. I've also been looking at Power Squadron classes and will sign up for a few as I was planning to anyway.

I am not sure of the condition of the boat. The fact is the previous owner did not really keep it in tip-top shape, so I am anticipating a lot of work needed to get it into safe/trustworthy condition.

Any feedback much appreciated! Cheers!
