We are looking for a Walter Vdrive RV 20D for a 1982 Carver Mariner with Crusaders. If anyone has a recommendation for a good source for replacement parts of this sort, it would be appreciated. Thanks

View the latest post New member, shopping for my first Carver

Live in Washington DC and have recently discovered boating and Carver Aft Cabin line. When I found out a used Carver yacht was in my price range, I was elated! I've found a marina that will take me and I now need to find my first boat. I'm very interested in the Aft Cabin range, around the 40' range.

My purpose with yachting is to have a weekend getaway boat I can have a friend or two on, some venturing out into the water, but mostly a "floating weekend apartment" if that makes sense.

Please help me with:

1. What are the key questions to ask a seller about a Carver yacht?
2. What are the top 2-3 things you wished you'd known before you bought one?
3. If you were to talk me out of buying a Carver yacht, what would you say?
4. Whenever I buy a used car, I have a mechanic look at it to tell me what might be wrong. How does that work in the boat world?
5. What are the ways people can get a yacht delivered? And what are the pros and cons of each?

That's it for now. Thank you so much!

View the latest post Attachment(s) possible anchor locker leak on 87,3607

Needing advice. I keep finding clean water in the forward bilge, it's not a fresh water leak or any type of plumbing leak. I am wondering if it is rain water getting past my windlass and into the anchor locker. our boat sticks out of our covered slip a few feet and blowing rain definitely covers our forward deck. The anchor locker has a drain hole but I'm wondering if over time maybe a small crack or wear has developed allowing water to get into the bilge. Also what is the compartment under the V=berth that has a drain line out the bottom? I have thought it was for storage of life jackets and other possible wet items but now wonder if the two compartments are connected. any advise or thoughts would be appreciated. I'm going to do the old water hose test next time we go back to the dock.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Installation of 400 Watt solar kit (4 panels) 390CPMY

I have my panels and controller. My 400 Watt system is 4 100W panels and a 40A MPPT controller. I am going to have to run 2 on one side of the aft hardtop and 2 on the other side with a space in between for expansion if needed. I have the plastic corner mounts that stick on with Silkaflex(?) as the panels are also glued to them with the same. NOW, I have read a LOT about how to do this.....Series? Parallel? I was going to hook each side up in series hence having 2 24V banks, then connecting together with the connectors to form the one lead to the controller. From what I gather, if one set is shaded the other will set will perform. Where would you put the controller? I was going to place it in the salon, then make the run to the house batteries to charge. I could always send power to house and start bank by selecting “Both” on the selector switch. Is that too far away from the panels? Also, I was thinking of a small disconnect switch at the run to the batteries in case I wanted to shut off the system. Thoughts? Experience?

View the latest post Moving & removing the top

We have a 3607 that we will be moving to a new location. For those of you who have moved your boats, did you take the tops off yourselves or have them professionally done? If you did it yourself, how challenging is it? Can someone explain the process please!! Thanks for any information.

View the latest post 1994 390CPMY 11 gallon water heater

I have the original (Seaward?) water heater, 11 gallon. It is mounted under the dinette next to the salon A/C. I know it has a heat exchanger, as we get hot water while we are underway. HOWEVER, I can’t see where any water lines come from the engine ( fresh water heat exchanger) to the water heater. AND I have looked under the seat of the dinette and could not see any hoses. Any ideas from a personal experience? Also, I am thinking of replacing with one with a mixing valve. Anyone ever replace with an isotherm? I am a tad concerned about the if a failure is long overdue?

Thanks as always!

Tony

View the latest post Attachment(s) Questions regarding 84 aft cabin

Does anyone here have a spec on the transmission used on this boat and a link to an online shop manual for them?

Which engine spins in the conventional direction (same as automotive application)? and which spins opposite?

Thanks.
