Hello all: I initially joined this owners forum two years ago but did not use it because boat was in storage. Was unable to sign back in thus became new again. We own a 1989 Carver 2557 Montego Express Cruiser. I will be renovating this lovely old girl this winter. She has a 5.7 litre Mercruiser with an Alpha one (1st gen) stern drive with a 3 blade aluminum prop. All original and with just shy of 500 hours since new. Always kept on a fresh water lake. I purchased this boat two years ago ...

Post 3297 mariner exhaust

Does a body know if this exhaust nozzle is a factory set up? I have 260 mercs with 4” to 3” exhaust hose on-each manifold they run to mufflers then out the transom to these nozzles that direct the exhaust into the water. Im only making 3000 rpm and am wondering if this is causing excess back pressure. I have gone through fuel system. Carbs and timing.
Thanks
JJ

Post Early winterizing , yikes !!!

Well , a sorry state for me I think.....just changed the oil / filters and winterized the genny...boat to come out next week, all the old gas will be sucked out of the tanks as we have not used the boat for much more than a day cottage this year....we seem to have lost the drive for big boat boating, I now like the satisfaction of working on it more than untying the lines. Hopefully next year will see us re-energized or Mr or in our case Mrs Broker here we come..... :-O

Anyone go thru this, an ...

Post Blocking Height

Anyone have an idea on the height difference between stern and bow to block a 1989 Carver 3607 for the winter?Hoping that it will provide sufficient angle to allow any draining of bilge water toward the garboard but maintain a respectable even keel for winter work and engine room cleaning. Will need to find some blocks soon as haul out is only 6 weeks away
Also, how much distance should be between the blocks?
Thanks

Post What to do with Seawise Davits

Question for you...
My Carver 350 was sunk by a local mechanic last year.
Note: think about over insuring you boat...
It sank to the bottom and considered salvage.
I was able to keep the dinghy and it has Seawise davits.
I plan to sell the dinghy, is it worth the time and expense to remove the davits and sell?

Post Hello, New Owners of 450 Voyager Pilothouse

Hello, we purchased a 2002 Carver 450 Voyager Pilothouse earlier this summer. We hired a captain for a day and a half to deliver the boat to our home port and to receive some training. We love this boat! We have been taking day trips practicing our docking skills and learning about the many systems on these boats. Very grateful to all who share on this forum.

Post Cleaning your Motors

I'm curious what process or strategy you guys use to clean your motors. I need to do a deep clean on my Volvo TAMD74-P EDC's before touching up the paint. My plan is:

Cover EDC with plastic shower cap

Spray motor liberally with degreaser

Use a soft brush and warm water containing Dawn

Rinse with mist from garden hose sprayer

Shop vac any standing water immediately

Allow to air dry

Any one see a problem with this or have a better idea?

Thanks!

Post 405/406 Port Light Screen Replacement

Hi, the bug screens on my 1998 405 are getting a bit torn up. The boat is new to me and I thought there would be a simple way of pulling iut the old bug screen and putting a new one back in place. However, it appear the bug screen material is embedded into the foam material seal for the portlight lens. Has anyone replaced just the screen?
Thanks in advance
Frank
