View the latest post Attachment(s) Film Floating on the Water

Hey folks. Before I took her out for hibernation I noticed this film being produced by the exhaust on the port side. Starboard side is clean.
I know that it is not coolant, as I changed out the risers this season and she is holding the antifreeze. Also, she is not burning oil.
I am thinking that perhaps the engine is running rich, however I do not know if fuel injection systems can 'run rich'.
I have attached an image for reference. Any thoughts on cause and Spring cures are much appreciated. Gasoline engines are Crusader 6.0's.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Impulse QT-204 Depth Sounder trouble shooting

Wasn't sure if I should add to (felt like I'd be hijacking) the previous post from mbenner, I am having issues w/factory installed sounder on my "das boot'" as well... Impulse QT-204. One day worked fine, next - when I turn it on it shows 0.0 for a few (10-20) seconds and then starts flashing the 0.0 reading without end. Not sure if this is my head unit or the transducer... or maybe as simple as a wiring/short/ground issue?

Any one have any suggestions?

View the latest post Depth Sounder Has Died

Two part question:

1) How can I find a replacement depth sounder that will interface with the existing transducer from my deceased President LTD200?

2) If I replace the transducer, what is the path and where are the access points for fishing the transducer cable on a 1993 Carver 30-0 Aft-Cabin Motor Cruiser?

View the latest post Greetings from the Tenn Tom

Last April I purchased The Black Rose which was berthed in Green Turtle Bay at Grand Rivers, KY on the Cumberland River. I moved her to Midway Marina on the Tennessee Tombigbee waterway in May for refurbishing. Next May I will take her to Boat Tree Marina on the St Johns River at Sanford, FL, adjacent to Orlando. Over the years I have owned several boats, but this is my first Carver and so far I'm impressed. I'm hoping the Forum will be able to help me with advice during the refit/refurbishment. If I have any knowledge valuable to any Forum members, I'll be happy to share.

View the latest post Attachment(s) New Carver Owners - '03 366 Motor Yacht

My wife and I now the owners of an '03 366 Aft Cabin Motor Yacht + new members of the forum. As you can tell from the pic, the boat does not have a front windshield cover. Have priced a custom one from a local shop; but before pulling the trigger thought we'd ask if anyone has any insight into ordering a pre-fab one online (haven't found anything thus far).

View the latest post Attachment(s) 454 XL TBI rpm issue

I'm at a loss, and leaning toward replacing the fuel pump. Replaced the MAP sensor in the starboard motor, and it instantly ran excellent- perfect idle, perfect RPM, perfect acceleration. Let it come up to temp, no issues. I couldn't have been happier, thought I had the issue licked, and a perfect running motor. Shut it off, cleaned up, started the port motor, (which is now running great), let it warm up a bit, and started stowing things to get ready for it's end of the year journey to winter storage.

Started the starboard motor that had perviously been running great, and it ran great again, for about 4-5 minutes... then the check engine light came on, and it instantly started doing everything it was doing before replacing the MAP sensor - ran like hell, popped through the carb, wouldn't RPM up past 3k, ran like hell after 2k, and struggled to stay running at any RPM. Shut it off, let it sit, started it again, ran like hell. Let the motor sit for a couple minutes, turned the key on and off 4-5 times, ran perfect again for 4-5 minutes, then started running like hell. Shut it off cycled the key on and off 4-5 times, ran better, but had the check engine light. Usually when I start it no check engine light, then 2-3 min. later it comes on. I did take a couple videos of what it's doing, but you can only hear a bit and see the tach. Any thoughts?

I'm thinking that it's starving for fuel. I plan on putting a real fuel pump gauge on it (mine is a crappy Pittsburg gauge from Harbor Freight), and seeing what it does. I need to see what the fuel pressure is doing when it's acting up. Does anyone know a fuel pump replacement that is not the peirburg pump? I'm considering the Carter P5001. It's the same pump that Volvo uses on this style of their version of the same motor. The Carter pump is not a discontinued pump (the pierburg of this model is, to the best of my knowledge), and it costs about 1/3 the price. Open to other suggestions.

Anyone know when Carver quit encapsulated plywood in the stringers on this model? Also balsa cored sides to the chine?

View the latest post 454 XL Possible MAP sensor issue?

I think I've worked out the majority of my fuel issues. About a month ago the starboard motor started throwing a "check engine" light at the helm, but I didn't think much of it. I was running the motor for approximately 10 hours, then changing the fuel filter. It would run better with fresh filters, and slowly get worse as the filters clogged. I got to the point where I could tell that the filters needed replacing. I was satisfied with the progress and could use the boat, but was still troubled with the check engine light, that never existed with fresh filters, or even clogged filters in the past.

With partially clogged filters the starboard motor would hesitate under acceleration, but always accelerated fine and give me full RPM with fresh filters. That's no longer the case. The motor now breaks up after around 2500 rpm or so, every time, fresh filters or not, still has a check engine code. Fuel pressure is good, fuel spray pattern out of the injectors looks good. I'm guessing the issue is a bad MAP sensor. What's a good way to diagnose the issue without a vacuum pump?

I was told that the motor may run better, accelerate fine, and run a little rich if I disconnect the MAP sensor. If that is true, I suppose that would be one way to diagnose the issue. Also, can the MAP sensor be cleaned? I will check the vacuum line for leaks, kinks and clogs tomorrow morning.
