View the latest post 1982 Mariner value as project / part boat

So - bad news taking the boat out this year. The bow started to buckle at the lift points. We know we had some water issues over the last few seasons ( long story ). So between the soft hull , propeller shaft issues and 2 pumps to replace we have decided it's time to stop the money drain. We are looking for forum input on the value for a 1982 Mariner that is at end of life. Yes , we could fix the fiberglass and probably have the marina pull the engine and replace the shaft but there are too many other things wrong with the boat for us to continue to put money into it ( engines are at 2000 hours, subfloor in the salon needs replacing etc etc ). If I were to part it out on ebay - there are two engines and transmissions that alone would be in the 10,000.00 range

Any thoughts on a value for an end of life carver ?

Thanks in advance

View the latest post Oil Change Hoses

Hello all, I need to replace all three oil change hoses [pt, stb & genset] on 1991 3607 aft cabin, w/twin Cummins 6BTA. The price for hoses is all over the chart, i.e. ranging from $2.75 to $15 per foot. Need help specifying correct hose and recommendation where to buy. :captain:

View the latest post No Power to the Windless

2003 356 windless won’t work. My question is: how much should the red switch under the stairs label windless pull up? In the process of buying this boat and the windlass doesn’t work. Owner said earlier in the season he let all of the chain out then in to exercise the system. Now it won’t work at all. The red switch barely moves up and down at all and there is no power indication at the helm on the windless control head. The foot controls at the bow do not work as well. Just trying to get a rough idea if I should hold things up over this. An inspection of the anchor locker doesn’t reveal any signs of anything amiss all wires appear connected and no corrosion at all. Opinions?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 50 amp female to a 30 amp male

So I finally got my 98 405 in my slip and it has 30 amp outlets. Marina has given me permission to install 50 amp and they will reinburse me.

In the meantime, can I convert the 50 amp using a 50 amp female down to a 30 amp male converter and it work? So I dont have to run my generator all the time.

I have 2 16k btu a/c units currently and I plan on adding a 3 16k btu unit next summer.

Electrical is not my strong point, so if I run separate convertors from the 2 connectors on my boat will it power everything from the 30amp connections? I have two separate connections on my shore power pedestal I can use.

I havnt even started adding my large screen tvs, so i appreciate any thoughts or suggestions ya have

View the latest post Attachment(s) 10E Kohler Generator water in pan

So after months, I finally got my 98 Carver 405 to her slip from 500 miles away.
I have put 60 hours on my engines ( 425 and 417 now) and they are running fine.
I have put 99 hours on my generator (710 now) and I ran it a little last night. It sounded different somehow and I am pretty in tune with the engines now. So into the engine compartment I went.

Water pooling up under the generator in the pan spilling over into the mid bilge.
No obvious hose leaks

Wet muffler? Elbow? What should I check?

Your thoughts please and thank you

View the latest post Total noob questions about marine head

Having never owned/used neither rv or marine vehicles before now I have no idea what's involved with using the head on my boat. Anniversary today and rather than drive 250 miles away to a $250 a night motel we decided to try the boat out for a night of river camping.

89 Carver Montego 2557 with a manual pump head. Do you have to fill with water at the bow of the boat? Are there sea-cocks needing to be opened?

Sorry all for my ignorance... Any education I can glean would be greatly appreciated!!

Mark

View the latest post Tranny Chatter 1000-1400 RPM

Sea trial on our soon to be ours 2003 356 has a little chatter on the starboard side transmission from about 1000-1400 RPM. Goes away after 1500. Port side has no issues. Less then 250 hours on each 8.1 and almost identical hours on each. Boat ran perfectly otherwise. Thank you for any input.

View the latest post New to Navigation - long trip; new boat

I used to putter around Lake Erie in a 17' bowrider. I navigated by landmarks.

I now need to get my newly purchased 38' boat from Trenton, Ontario through the Murray Canal and all the way past Toronto to Port Credit, Ontario.

Not a huge trip in the grand scheme of things. But I am more than a little trepidatious.

The boat has a some sort of gps gizmo and a depth finder. Both Lowrance. Radio too. I'm away from the boat so I don't have the model numbers.

Is a trip like this something I should put off until I'm more comfortable with the vessel? Should I just get it towed to Port Credit? I guess I'm just wondering if I am I biting off more than I can chew with a trip like this this time of year.

Any tips on trip planning websites or other navigation aids would be most appreciated.

:captain:

View the latest post Attachment(s) New-ish Santego 310 owner

Hey guys! My name is Aaron and let me introduce my boat... Shiny Penny! (You know as in “easily distracted by a shiny penny?”)

I’ve had her just about a year now. I’ve upgraded her horns, wheel, and anchor. I’m in the process of fixing a flybridge drain leak that is damaging the starboard interior trim and I’m re-covering the cabinets with a really nice 3M wood grain textured vinyl... it’s a 94 so next on the list is re-covering all the upholstery with something more modern (not teal).

Anyone here on the Neuse River in NC?

I just found out today that she made it through Hurricane Florence! The roads haven’t been passable but a neighbor just sent me pics and the good news!

Survey/sea trial scheduled for Thursday September 20, 2018. Fingers crossed it all goes well. Spent the better part of a day reading everything 356 on this website. What a great group of people with a tremendous depth of knowledge. Hope to participate as new owners!
