View the latest post 1998 350 Mariner Mercruise 350 Magnum 2800 RPM WOT issue

Ok I have a strange one which will require a real GURU to give some new hints. I have read lots of posts about RPM limits under WOT but none of them seem to be my issue. At dock and at idle, WOT will go up to 4500RPM+. Under load (in FWD), both engines are limited to about 3000RPM w WOT. Both engines behave exactly the same. If I try 1 engine at a time under power, no change, meaning each engine still limited to about 3000RPM. We pulled the boat, inspected the shafts, props, bottom, trim tabs and everything seems to check out. Drew some fuel into a glass jar and looks great. Replaced fuel filters and checks fuel lines even cleaned out the fuel vents. Still same issue. For giggles we did a compression test and both engines seem fine. We put 2 different diagnostic tools on and no codes are being thrown. Both engines purr like a kitten at idle and also run strong - just limited to the 3000RMP thing. We looked at the fuel pumps (CoolFuel2) and the input voltage is correct. According to Merc, with WOT we should see about 40psi+ but only get about low 20s. That seems to be wrong of course but the question is "is something causing it to be limited to 20psi or is it truly the pumps"..it.seems strange that both would behave exactly the same. Other than the input voltage to the fuel pumps, what are the other inputs and conditions that it needs to see in order for it to supply the full 40+psi? Furthermore, is their something common to both engines with regards to those other inputs/conditions needed for the fuel pump? Any suggestions welcome please as I am completely STUMPED!

View the latest post 350 Mariner Holding Tank Filter

Hello, I have a 1998 350 Mariner. Does anyone know if this boat has a Holding Tank Filter? If it does, how often should it be replaced and where is it located specifically? I am getting an odor when away for the week and I return. Thanks!

View the latest post New 2001 Carver 396 Motor Yacht Owner

Hi there,

Just writing in to introduce myself and ask for guidance. We are new boat owners and a bit overwhelmed by “all things boat”. For starters, the water from our fresh water tank smells like rotten eggs. I read to flush the tanks and treat with 1 cup of bleach? We did empty the tank when we 1st bought it 2 weeks ago and refilled it and had a heck of a time pressurizing the tank. Although we didn’t treat it then, I wanted guidance in the proper way to do both (treat & pressurize). The owners Manual isn’t helpful to me.

Issue #3 Two days after we bought the boat, we could barely breathe from the sewer smell when running the front stateroom a/c. It was suggested that the a/c filter needed cleaning? Pardon my ignorance, but do I have a filter? We went on a hunch and had the sewer tanks pumped & sanitized. We are constantly pumping our bilge too. Although it seems better, the whiff of sewer stench lingers.

Thank you in advance for your insights to my stench problems.

Have this noise coming from starboard trans. stops when you increase idle or place it in gear. Any thought?

View the latest post Attachment(s) 3607 new to me

Wow... been lusting after sailboats since boy scouts.

As a (wannabe) pirate that looks at 60 (the new 50), I took the plunge on the dark side and bought a 1984 Carver 3607. It wasn't without decades of looking, admiring, lusting...

Lust for the sailboat, but 'practicality' of the 'floating condo' won out. Yes, I regret burning the dinosaurs and would love a hybrid - solar and batteries would be great, realistic? Survey revealed some issues, and I have addressed the safety, bulbs. Lots to learn about AC DC strainers filters radios unlabeled switches and pull switches ...

The dock master, Earnie helped us move her into her new covered slip in Washington, NC. All the neighbors have been extremely welcoming. I immediately admitted to being an 'newbie' and was welcomed, although there were some hints of 'snipe hunt' and 'left-handed smoke shifter' over adult beverages at the dock.

Today, we took her out by ourselves - it was early, the wind was light, and we just had to do it for the first time. Got out of the slip well, progressing 15 mins in a no wake zone and the starboard engine alarm goes off - looks like low oil pressure, so, I turn her off. I forget to take her out of gear, but chalk that up to inexperience. Anyway, restart the starboard engine, and no problem after that, but watching the oil pressure gauge all the time. We test cruise for about an hour, do some backing and spinning on a dime to practice backing into a dock. Got her up on plane somewhere above
9 and then she seemed to jump to 14 without any more throttle - the gps is real old, but seemed to track knots well.

Made it back to dock without any issues, but the 'neighbors' were there to help with the lines if needed, but for the most part (with no wind or current), we managed by ourselves.

It felt wonderful!

View the latest post Mariner Forward Bilge Water

Like many Mariner owners, my boat has a tendency to 'collect' water in the forward bilge, especially after a cruise in larger seas.
I believe that this is likely caused by a siphoning of water into the bilge via the forward bilge discharge thru hull fitting.
One gentleman in a post suggested that the water intrusion completely stopped when he duct taped over the thru hull.
Has anyone come up for a solution to this problem without using duct tape? I hate having standing water the the bilge and dread having to wet vac 5 or 10 gallons of water out of there after most cruises. Thanks

View the latest post No Air Con when using generator

Hello.
My new to me 95 355 Aft Cabin has air and a generator. During the survey and a couple other times I was on the boat we had AC and the generator running while out on the water. The previous owner isn't around this week so I can't ask.

Here's my issue...
I had the AC running, then went to leave the slip. I disconnected the shore power lines, went in and started the generator without changing anything on the panel. Neither AC unit powered up after that. No lights on the AC control panels at all.
I flipped every configuration of switches I could think of with no joy. I see amps and volts on the shore power 1 meter. Nothing on shore power 2. AC is tied to shore power 2 when plugged in.

When we got back to the slip I plugged into shore power and the AC kicked right on like nothing happened.

Genny is a Kohler if that helps. I'm thinking I'm just missing something simple, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks for the help .

View the latest post Attachment(s) Interior door handle on '00 530

I have a 2000 530. One of the interior door handles lost it's "spring" action - the tension that operates the handle. I took the face plate off to see if I could repair it. Now I can not reassemble the latch. There is a small spring that puts tension on the bolt that I can't figure out how to connect properly (see photo). Anyone have advice or experience with repairing these door handles?
