View the latest post Telephone Jack to USB Conversion

Those outdated telephone jacks can easily be converted by using one of these if you have decora style plugs on board that is. In my case it is a simple swap except I obviously need to supply the new unit with 12v dc. Thought this might interest others. https://www.amazon.com/Magnadyne-Black-Mount-Charging-12-16V/dp/B00ZOG6TBE/ref=lp_3034424011_1_1?srs=3034424011&ie=UTF8&qid=1535323490&sr=8-1

My wife has these what I always think are weird ideas. Problem is she is right 99% of the time . :-D Anyhow, she took a picture of our wake some time ago which she had transferred to wall paper. Ended up putting it over the mirror door that opens to the chain locker in the forward berth. Came out really nice.

View the latest post AC Unit fault

Carver 444 2001.

My Marine Air AC is doing some weird things. An AC repair guy replace the control unit and it seemed to work ok for a week or so. When I select it on it shows correct cabin temp and the AC unit cones on and starts cooling, then after a minute or so the indictated cabin temp starts fluctuating to lower numbers like 80 then 76, 73, 67. I selected 65 degrees to keep the unit runing as the indicated temp fluctuates up and down but eventually I get a HPF fault.

I swapped the the control unit with my aft AC but get the same fault. I presume it is a problem with the AC computer but afraid to bring AC guy out again without some input as when I tell him what it is doing and provided a video of it he seemed perplexed.

View the latest post New member from Ontario

Hello,
We are moving from sail to power and looking to forward to spending weekends cruising Trent Severn waterway and Georgian Bay area next season with my wife . We are looking to purchase a Carver 3207 around 1983-1984 this year possibly. Some advertised in the Ontario area that we are interested in have around 1200 -1500 hours.
Any advice on any areas that should be of concern when we go to view these.
Great forum, a lot of input and very useful advice.
Thanks.

View the latest post Attachment(s) 80s 3697 Generator Location

Can anyone tell me where the original location is/was for the generator for a Carver Mariner? I'm looking at a boat, that I'm told didn't come with one originally, so I'm looking for info and cost to add one.

Thanks in advance!
Ben

View the latest post Attachment(s) Aft cabin HVAC project

My boat (83 3607) did not come with any HVAC. I've used a portable for a couple years in the salon and it does pretty good, but a friend of mine gave me a nice unit when the controls failed and he had to replace it. I bypassed the circuit board and turned it into a older manual style without the fancy controls. It'll do heat or cool and I have a thermostat for both. Right now the fan is either 100% on or it's off... someday I'll put a variable control on it.

First part was to drill some holes to run some of the hose ducting. I wanted to run everything as out-of-the-way as possible and not use up any storage space. Had to drill a few 4" holes though the cabinetry to run it from the port side cabinet, under the berth, through the starboard cabinetry and over to where I wanted to mount the register in the closet. These will run at the very back of the cabinets up just under the drawer units.

Started with a DULL bit and nearly burned my way through the first two holes!! Went and bought a new bit to do the rest... and found out I need to do three more holes than I thought!! (good thing I got that new bit!)

First, I had to move the accumulator that I had installed. Here is is unmounted, but I wanted to put the hose just to the upper-left of it and it was too close. So I had to unmount and move the supports about 3" farther forward for clearance. I had to also move the trim tab pump on the other side for the same reason.

Here is the last hole I drilled into the closet. The ducting is going into the closet then up to the register:

Here is the register. Still have to finish the ducting inside the closet;

View the latest post Newbie

Hi all. Thanks for accepting me to the forum. We have a 97 350 Mariner purchased in Plattsburg NY last fall and brought to The St Lawrence River (Prescott) in June. 5 1/2 day shake down cruise that went great. Everything worked. First boat with A/C and a bow thruster and I will never be without either again.

View the latest post Looking to purchase a Carver Mariner

Hello. New member here, I joined to read all that I could on Carver boats as my wife and I have really fallen in love with the idea of a Carver 3697 Mariner. We think this boats layout will work very well for our family due to its combination of interior and exterior spaces and what we feel is a very versatile design.

Now for my big question. As I've been investigating the possibility of transporting a boat that I might buy I've received quotes as high as $7k to transport 800 miles with the reasoning being the excessive height of the Mariner design. Can anyone with experience shipping/transporting this model share any advice on the actual height when using a hydraulic trailer? We know that the radar arch will need to come off, but what about the windshield and possibly the rear seat?

Thanks in advance for any help, I have searched the forums and read every thread but I'm unable to get a clear answer. Would love to own one of these but I'm unable to find anything fairly local, at least not at the moment.

View the latest post Stateroom 12v Ceiling Fan

I have had small fans in the past which were easily installed because the cave was small. The challenge here in a large stateroom was to install a 12vdc fan. Don't laugh but I picked up a mini ceiling fan that can be hung from a hook. Intend to hang it only when required which would be when on the hook and no AC. Unit was a whopping $12 :-O Bottom line is I do have it now and did try it at home. Blows a nice amount of air which should be just about right over the bed and really really quiet. Thought it may interest someone else. https://www.amazon.com/Sunlar-Ceiling-Outdoor-Camping-Battery/dp/B07141KCP2
