View the latest post Carver 366 lift up Transom step holder

I purchased a 2003 Carver 366 in May. The bracket/Pole that holds up the transom step (to access shore cord & water hookup) is missing. I am not sure what it is suppose to have. Could be a fold out pole support or maybe a shock. Can anyone provide details. Thanks Mike

View the latest post 3207 Ignition Problems

Hey everyone,

I have 2 issues going on, and hoped the answer might be with one of you! 1985 3207, twin Crusader 270s (350 v8)

I'm having an electrical problem on my port engine, and it won't start the engine was running great Saturday, then all of a sudden died on me and won't restart. I can disconnect the fuel line and crank the engine and gas will pump, I can spray starting fluid and dump gas down the carb and get nothing which is was points me to an electric issue.

Questions are
1) I'm not sure on the electronic ignition conversion the previous own did. How do these conversion kits work? I understand points and how to work on them and all that... just not sure how the conversion kits work. Are all the control modules the same? I'm going to get new everything and start from scratch... do I need to know the module and kit that's in there now, or can I get any kit and install?
2) Apparently the ignition switch at the lower helm is dead too, and I forgot to look at the switch before leaving the lake to see how many contacts are on the back. Anyone know how may contacts are on the back of an ignition switch on a 3207?

View the latest post New 1997 405 Aft Cabin

Hello All!

We will be picking up our new 1997 405 Aft Cabin next Monday in Newport News, VA and bringing her to her new home in Edgewater, New Jersey (Northern NJ, NYC, GW Bridge Area). This is our first Carver (we have owned Bayliners, Silvertons and our current boat a 1988 Mainship 36C). We have been live aboards since 2012 (Hurricane Sandy destroyed our town, and it was a good excuse to move aboard! Lol!). This is our first Carver, it has some more complicated systems, like a VAC U Flush, but we are up for the challenge! Our new boat has spent it’s entire life in freshwater and only has 202 hours on the engines and 221 hours on the generator. The boat is a “tweenie”. The hull is a 1997, but it was built in 1998. I am a third generation boater, but have limited knowledge when it comes to the engines. Any help or advice anyone can give me would be appreciated! The current name of the boat is: “About Time” but we plan to change it to “Island Breeze”. Fair Seas to all! Geoff.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Buying an Out of State Boat

Does anyone have experience buying an out of state boat? I'm thinking I'll need to schedule a survey/haul out remotely as well as a mechanical (engine) survey. The listing broker is going to be motivated to help facilitate these items, so I'm not too worried them.

The next hurdle will be getting it shipped, which means getting it to a yard where they can haul it out, have the radar arch removed, and have the boat packaged for shipment and loaded on a truck. I'm a little more worried about these steps, but I suspect the listing broker would be willing to move the boat to the yard for me. One broker I talked to said having it wrapped is a waste of money - he recommended just taping around the windows/doors. Does anyone have recommendations for a shipping company or advice about the whole shipping/packaging process?
Thanks.
Steve

View the latest post Attachment(s) New Owner! 1999 Carver 406 Aft Cabin

Hello all. My wife and I just bought our first "big" boat. A 1999 Carver 406 Aft Cabin. We moved from a 2015 Bennington 28' Tri-toon. This 42' boat started out feeling like a monster compared to our last boat, but it is already feeling extremely comfortable. We LOVE it so far! We are located on Keystone Lake in northeast Oklahoma. Had some really stylish WhamGuards installed at the dock for "rookie" driver protection, and have been using it daily (when possible). I know there will be a ton to learn regarding maintenance of all the systems and winterization, etc., but I plan to take advantage of this forum to gain a lot of that knowledge.

Happy boating!
Terry & Lisa

View the latest post What do you use for a stern anchor / tackle

I dont mean an angry anchor here  ......Ok as the title suggests, do you use a stern anchor and if so what size and type.
I had a real nice small danforth that went with the last boat, the one thing I should have kept, really good anchor for about 9 lbs....so...stories.....

View the latest post Attachment(s) Fresh Water Tank Leak

I have a 1993 350 Aft Cabin. My fresh water tank is under the bed in the aft cabin and is leaking. Upon inspection the leak appears to be a crack in the plastic tube where it screws into the tank. (tube exits tank straight out bottom end and threads into an elbow that connects to main water lines) I was unable to remove to see what size as did not have the right tools with me at the time. Will be going down again next weekend and hoping to take the parts with me as my marina has no parts and in a small town where parts are hard to find. Does anyone know what size the tube is? Also when replacing should I use Teflon tape?
