View the latest post Trip Checklist

A search of the forum did not produce a checklist for a trip.

So I have decided to enjoy the boat in the Gulf of Mexico for a couple months or so, but keep my home base slip. I am going to drive the boat from Northern Galveston Texas to Orange Beach Alabama/Perdido Key Florida this Weds through Saturday.

So I am charting it tomorrow, but I would estimate 400-500 miles as it is 503 miles by car. Probably closer to 400 by ICW.

Since we dont have one on the forum, can anyone share their trip checklist with us or take a picture of their written out checklist to upload and share.

We have numerous people wanting to do the great loop and more, just maybe your list will save someone a major headache or item that is needed on a long trip.

Maybe this can be a running checklist we all can check from time to time. This forum is worth its weight in Gold.

Thanks everyone and happy boating.

P.S. Being the inexperienced captain I am, my first item on my checklist is a retired Master Captain who runs a boat safety school where he teaches students how to be a captain. I am very honored to make this trip with someone who will teach me how to make a trip safely.

View the latest post Anyone have their Radar Arch hinged?

I’m contemplating doing the Great loop in 2020/2021 but as of now my boat is way too tall. I believe there is a fixed bridge in Chicago that is 19’.

I’ve read of various owners having their Arch hinged to lower their overall height.

Has anyone done this & if so any feedback would be great

View the latest post Attachment(s) '79 Voyager 28ft

Hi all! Nice web site.
I have a 1979 Carver Voyager 28 that I fell into on a whim. Little is know of the ancient history of this boat, however this boat was owned by a series of fellows named "Bob". It was only fitting that I, a "Bob", would wind-up by this boat. I found it in a boat yard in Crystal River, Fl. She was refit about 8 years ago with an old BMW Marine Diesel of unknown hours, a D150 rated at 134 hp. It runs, but it's no speed demon.
In Crystal River, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a herd of manatee. Today, this boat sits on the hook in King's Bay. She's my private recreation condo on the water with constantly changing 360 degree views. I hang out, throw the dive flag off the back, and swim with the manatees. During scallop season, I motor the beast out to the scallop beds in the Gulf of Mexico, throw out the hook, and snorkel for scallops. Really cool cooking fresh scallops and diving for more.
Thanks for reading. Peace.

View the latest post New Member 85 Riviera 28

Ahoy Mates!

New member here. Just brought my "new" Riviera from Mamaroneck NY to it's new home port of Lloyd Harbor NY today. Love the boat and it's been very well maintained and ran great. One of the front vent windows was (intentionally) sealed shut. I want to restore it to operate so here's my question...

Has anyone ever retrofit a locking rod or something similar to make it easier top open and close? I had a 35 foot CHB Trawler that had this kind of mechanism on the center front window, You would unset the knob and push the rod forward top open the bottom of the window and reset the knob to hold it open. Seems the vent windows are pretty hard to reach otherwise.

Any other tips/tricks from Riveiera 28 owners?

Cheers!

Tom

View the latest post Port Engine Continues To Run Even With Key Removed...

Has happened twice now...go to shut down when docked and port motor continues to run when in the off position - key can be removed yet still runs...only way to shut down is by port fuel valve to OFF.
Thought it was a bad ignition switch- replaced it- tested it- worked normally. Then when back at dock omce again it failed to shut down.
I’ve been reading a ton and maybe an alternator diode? Have an alternator on order..
Could be the wiring harness maybe?
Has anyone had this issue?

View the latest post When Was Fuel Injection Introduced?

Anybody have an idea in what model year fuel injection was introduced in the Crusader engines? Also, I read something that said the CM 350XL was fresh water cooled, but I thought all these were raw water cooled.

View the latest post Fresh Water Pump Recommendations - to many options...

I'm looking for a replacement fresh water pump for my Mariner 350. My current pump is still operational but it is getting nosier and nosier. Especially as the fresh water holding tank nears empty. I would like to replace it with a more robust and quieter pump. I will still intend on using my faulty water pump for winterization of my fresh water system via the city water connection. That being said, I'm looking for a pump to service 3 faucets and a shower.

My current pump is a ShurFlo diaphragm pump model 2088-423-344 (2.8 GPM & 45 psi). It's from 2003, and it's held up fairly well over the past 15 years. Technology has changed and I'm sure there is something better out there.

But what? All the reviews I read say this pump is noisier or that pump only lasted one year then seized up. With out buying 20 different pumps installing them and trying them out I don't what to buy. I relying on your experience to recommend a quality replacement pump that will last another 15 years or do they not make them the way the use to?

Thanks in advance for your help.
