View the latest post Attachment(s) Removing & (maybe) replacing carpet
- Posted by: Montego Jack » May 20th, 2018, 10:34 am
- Forum: The Project Center
I am toying with the idea of removing and possibly replacing the inside carpet on my 1989 Carver 27' Montego. I was told by the guy I bought it from that under the carpet the floor is the textured fiberglass, so we may just tear up the carpet and leave the floor and use throw rugs. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to how I should go about this.
Is the carpeting glued to the floor? Any special tools?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jack

View the latest post Gas overflow - Fuel Vent On Montego Midcabin Clogged?
- Posted by: NashvilleMartini » May 20th, 2018, 12:15 am
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
I went to the dock to fill up but we could not get more than a few gallons pumped into a 3/4 empty tank. Even the slightest amount of gas pumped in gushes right back out.
I have read some suggestions on cleaning the fuel vent which is locate near the tank. Mine is a a small protruding vent with 2 circular mesh screens. I am unsure of how to access this to remove the mesh screens. I cannot access it from within the engine compartment. Do I need to remove the vent to clean it? Do the mesh screens pop out? I have read about some people using compressed air or shop vacs.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so how did you fix it?
thank you much!

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Just picked up my new 2000 530 Voyager with Volvo 122's/610HP
Ran it from Boston to Greenport NY in some pretty snotty weather. Boat ran great and im very happy with her performance. Per GPS stats the Trip was just under 150 miles & took 8+hr
Spent about 90+min under 10knot’s leaving Quincy/getting out to Cape Cod Bay & going threw the CC Canal.
When conditions allowed we cruised at 21/22 knots running around 1925RPM.
Backed down to around 18Knots when really rough
With the wheels that are on the boat know we can reach 27knots at 2220RPM
WOT should be 2250RPM .
Im very ok with its performance & I have a bunch of $’s I need to spend now for a Sat system, some Nav upgrades, oh yea Taxes!
After the smoke clears I may have a set of Katapult wheels made like I did for my last boat which was a 50 Cruisers with 12Litr Cats/660Hp The Katapult should give me 2-4 more Knots threw out the range. This will help with fuel burn as well

As of now she’s a keeper!

Considering purchasing this boat. Cat 3126s replaced the original 3116s in 2003. 2883 hours on engines. Boat has traveled between Ohio and Florida several times. Current owner is OCD about maintenance & upkeep and has all records. Owner has annual spectographic oil analysis. Seawater pumps have been replaced. Owner says after coolers have never leaked.
Boat looked good on visual inspection. Awaiting additional info on 1000 and 2000 hour service on engines.
Would like comments, opinions, etcetera. Anything peculiar about this model? What about engines? Any issues with 3126 model?
Getting ready to pull the trigger and order the survey and engine inspections.
Thanx in advance.

View the latest post How well does your Norcold work?
- Posted by: MakinTime » May 18th, 2018, 6:58 am
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
I have a 7cu ft Norcold refrigerator/freezer in the galley of my 3607 and I have never been really happy with it since I got my boat a few years ago. It cools, but not very well and it’s probably only 4 years old. I am thinking about putting more ventilation around it to help it out. I have also been reading that there is a fan that blows across the condenser and compressor to help cooling but I have never heard a fan come on. Just curios to hear everyone’s input on their bigger Norcold units.
This winter I put another smaller 110 volt refrigerator on the aft deck and it works unbelievably better than the Norcold and it’s just a cheap Home Depot thing. I have thought about ditching the Norcold downstairs for a home style unit.

View the latest post Engine Room Lights

- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
I have a '06 41 CMY new to us as of end of last season. Getting ready for the '18 season and something continues to elude me... the switch to turn on the engine room lights. The DC panel light has a breaker which when I turn it on the indicator light comes on however, the engine room lights do not come on. I confident that there is another switch somewhere that I am just not finding. In my research it appears that on some models there is a separate wall switch near the phone plug (actually right above it) but I have no switch above the phone plug and no other wall switch seems to trigger the engine room lights. Anyone have any idea where the second switch might be on this model or if there is a breaker I am missing?
Thank you!

View the latest post Potable Water/Raw Water Interconnect Modification
- Posted by: Midnightsun » May 17th, 2018, 8:52 am
- Forum: The Project Center
Happens every now and then we run out of water in the tank after several days at anchor no matter how careful you are being there is only so much water on board. The main issue is the toilets will not flush as the draw is from the potable water tank and no water means no flush and an obligation to return to port.
The modification is to install a connection between the pressurized side of the potable water system and the pressurized side of the wash down pump. Using a solenoid valve and a filter to remove sediment and a few T connections is all it takes. This is the same connection all boats use to interconnect dock water to the potable water system except now it will be the washdown pump circuit.
Will add a 5a breaker in my panel to energize the solenoid just below my water pump breaker as this one needs to be off and visa versa when deactivating it. If I want lake water, turn off water pump breaker, turn on solenoid breaker, done deal.
This will work well for us as our boating waters are fresh water and almost drinkable. The idea is to use the feature when away from port for several days knowing we will probably run out. Will activate it when we take showers and maybe when we do dishes, the idea being to use less water from the tank.

Hi All
We have a 1982 Carver Mariner and find ourselves in need of new Windshield wiper motors. The Part number on the back of the motor is 1550-4119 does anyone have a cross reference to something manufactured in this century ? The only other identifying marks are an 80 , 12V , 9x23 and Japan. Any help would be appreciated.
