My raymaine system and anchor wench are not operating. I have 12vdc checked at the raymaine plug but when I plug in the c120, the voltage drops to 4.5. Could the problem corrosion on the common or not leg? This problem has come up after sitting all winter in storage on the dry.

New owner of 1985 Carver Mariner 3697, like so far, can anyone tell me if the boat has a holding tank gauge and if so where is it located and what size is the pump out adapter?

I thought the choice of bottom paint would be easy but there doesn't seem to be a straight forward answer online or with the "experts". Please give me your opinions.
My 444 stays in the water all year in mostly salt water with a very fast moving current. This is the first time I own a boat that can stay in the water all year and most at the marina only pull every other year to do the paint. Zincs are done once a year by diver. I do not use the boat that often to cruise so hours on the move are low. I bought the boat last year and was told the paint was new and ablative so I did not paint (the previous owner was in a marina with brackish water)......growth on hull is plentiful!
Pulling the boat to check zincs, paint, and wax. What type of paint, Hard, Ablative, Hybrid.
I was going to go ablative since I was told that's what the boat had, but after reading the website articles, seems hard is the way to go? please voice your opinions and experiences.

I have a LMS350a chart plotter (?) with gps, depth, and speed. Has a gps antenna and attached to an simrad auto pilot sytem that I never use. I would like to upgrade to a modern system. I just need gps, maps, speed, depth, heading, and boat info. Autopilot not needed and fish finder not required. Just need depth so I don’t run aground and screws don’t hit bottom. Anybody have any recommendations? Don’t want to break bank. I boat in MN on Mississippi River.

Ok, I've got 3 on board. As soon as I turn my battery switch off to leave the boat, they all start chirping the low power alarm. Any way I can stop this short of disconnecting them while away from the boat?

I'm looking for a fuel filter to install between the tank and fuel pump. The pump is a Carter electric for a GM 5.7 with a 600 cfm carburetor. Most I see are 10 Micron that in my opinion are not suitable for the suction side of the pump and would cause cavitation and destroy the pump. On my race car I use a 100 Micron filter between the tank and pump, then a 10 Micron between the pump and carburetors. Are fuel filters on boats required to be USGA approved?

- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Recently purchased a 1999 445 aft cabin Carver.
Can not locate the switch to operate the 2 small lights in the aft deck hardtop or the single light at the top of the stairs leading to the salon.
There are 2 swishes to the right of the wet bar, one operates the wet bar light the other apparently does not operate.
I need clarification if this dead switch is in fact the switch for the 3 lights that do not turn on???
Please help.
Thanks
Rene

New owner, somewhat new to "yachting." We had an older 340 Sundancer, but this is a whole new experience. This boat is a LOT "beefier." Looking forward to getting out on the lake this summer!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Walter V Drive Systems Gearbox Q
- Posted by: 390Express » April 6th, 2018, 2:27 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
I recently purchased a 390 Trojan Express (made by Carver, I believe) at auction. I am unsure if it was properly winterized. I'm expecting some bugs that need to be worked out once I get her wet, but I'm trying to do as much preventative maintenance, and address as many issues as possible before I splash her.
Upon inspecting the Walter V Drive gearboxes, I noticed that the gear oil was slightly milky. It wasn't a total milkshake, it just had some strands of milky residue on the dipstick. What are the chances that the gearboxes were not properly winterized, and the oil cooler freeze cracked? (the inlet was in the open position, and the hoses are still attached, and fine, with no water or antifreeze in them) We had a rough winter and spring in MI, and it's not uncommon for a small amount of milk to form from condensation.
If a busted oil cooler is a likely issue, how difficult will it be to pull the top plate off, and inspect the same? Does anyone have any pics or advice? The water inlet for the coolant lines was in the open position, no water in the lines, and the lines are in good shape. The motors were properly winterized, and are not freeze cracked, as was the generator. Is SAE 30 the proper lube for the gear boxes? Any recommended brands, or is any quality oil acceptable?
Do these gearboxes have a water pump that draws water, or do they rely on the propulsion of the boat to draw water from the lake? I didn't see any pump on the lines.
