View the latest post New Owner 5539 Carver "Californian" CPMY

Hello Carver Owners:

My wife and I have owned our current 55' Californian for almost a year now and we love it so much that we moved out of our condo and onto the boat. This is by far the best IMO design for a motor yacht to date. We have the three state room three head model and it suits our family well when we are all together. I do have a lot of questions as I do most if not all of the maintenance myself and have several projects that I would like to get into.

Projects:
Refinish the wood on the Cocpit rail - Done
Replace all house batteries, Inverter, and chargers - Done
Replace eisenglas on fly bridge - Done
Replace eisenglas in Sunroom aft -
New Radar
New Bottom paint
Replace Cutlass Bearings
Re balance Props
Service and Reseal Wing stabalizers
and the list will go on and on but these are priority but nothing is and emergency.

Does anyone know how many 5539's were built and if they were built in Costa Mesa, CA or at Carver in Polaski, WI? Not really important just curious.

Go to Best Buy get a nice wireless Bose blue tooth speaker you will be surprise the sound it has. If you don't like it return it. The enclosure of your aft deck and bridge area makes the sound great.

View the latest post Autopilot for older boat

Looking for autopilot advice,

It looks like it's time for me to install an autopilot on my boat since my previous autopilots grew up and moved away from home :). My boat is a 28ft Carver Santa Cruz 2866 with twin inboard OMC straight shaft engines. My steering system is a dual station mechanical cable system (Morse brand I believe). For navigation I use a Simrad NSS 12. My question is: has anyone installed an autopilot on one of these mechanical cable steering systems successfully? Or do I need to convert the whole system over to a new hydraulic system? The current steering system works fine so would not need to convert it over to hydraulic if there is a suitable autopilot that will work on the mechanical system.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Truenorth

View the latest post Running Gear Paint

As we are getting VERY CLOSE (finally!) to getting into the water, I am thinking about bottom paint.
I would like to know what you guys are doing with paint in terms of the running gear.
I usually paint the struts, rudders and trim tabs. The boat that I purchased last spring did not have bottom paint on the shafts or propellers. The new place where I am staying is suggesting that I paint the shafts as he suggests the bottom paint is compatable with stainless steel.
Regarding the props, he simply sands them smooth but doesn't treat them. I believe that the marina where I bought the boat used some clear heavy zinc type of paint on the shafts and props.
What say you?
Thanks

View the latest post Led lights & new covers for outside deck and stairs lighting

Looking to replace my old lights with new LED lights. The Led lights I bought are too long and do not fit under the old covers. Does anyone have any ideas on getting some new covers and LED lights? I have a 2000 Carver Mariner. I replaced all of the lights in the cabin and that worked out well. Now looking to replace lights on the outside. The old covers are very faded....they have an oval shape to them.
Thanks,
Tom

View the latest post Log Racing Question for Carver 390 CPMY owners

This may be a long shot, but since the 390 CPMY appears to be a fairly popular Carver model, maybe I'm not the only one who's used it for Predicted Log Racing.

I'm going on my first PRL this weekend where I'm using my own boat (1995 Carver 390 CPMY). Some questions:

1) I'm planning to run the boat at Hull Speed. Anybody know what that is on this model? My rough calculations suggest it's somewhere between 7 - 8 kts.

2) If' you've taken your Carver 390 Predicted Log Racing, what speed did you run it at, and if you're powered by Crusader 454s, what RPMs?

Thanks!

View the latest post 87 Carver Montego 32 A/C Not Working

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to the group and this is my first post:-). AC NOT working. Worked perfectly fine.... I came in from a cruise one day and nothing. The Pump is not working and the unit is not powering on. The only thing the powers on is the control unit (red Indicator light) illuminate when you turn the A/C on. Of course I checked the breaker, but does anyone know if this unit has a fuse separate from the breaker?

Thanks in Advance
