Can you answer some Questions
Where can I place a 2000watt Inverter?
House Bank of four 6 volt batteries. Planning on putting them where
the generator appears to go in front of STB engine. Your thoughts?
Want to stage 3ea 100 watt solar panels on top of the cockpit canopy. Is this workable as I will need to run cables to the house bank.
Adding a 30ft chain with 200ft of rode. Thinking of putting a 4" hole in the anchor storage closet. The rode would drop down to the forward part of bilge. Thoughts?
Yes, this boat will be running mostly slow for the most part. Planning on doing the great loop. But she will get her workouts. Plan on anchoring 60% of the time thus the solar panels and house bank. Have a Honda 2000 but that will be only if necessary.

Ok.... so here we are, May 2nd. I have been at the the boat once when the wrap came off and put my canvas up. I just need maybe 3 days to do some "out of the water" jobs and then launch. Rain, Rain, cold, Rain, Cold... more rain and colder.......
By this time last year I had installed my new battery charger, done my bottom paint, washed her down and were in the water.
Boating in Canada............ when please..... it is not fair.
Cheers
Fraser........

Hi guys, I am considering doing a major overhaul on my Sherwood raw water pumps. I am not sure if they have ever been done. I was planning on replacing impellers anyways so I thought it would be a good piece of mind to get everything done.Has anyone done this? Sounds like the bearing needs to be pressed into the housing and the shaft any tricks I need to know? Also looks like you can buy the kits with or without the cam which one to buy?
One other thing.. the pumps seem to work great pump plenty, do not leak, and last year when I replaced impellers bearing felt smooth. Should I even mess with it? Thanks!

View the latest post 1989 carver santego 27' stern drive cables question
- Posted by: animalalley » May 1st, 2017, 8:57 am
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Last year we purchased a beautiful 27 foot carver santego with twin merc.s. the prior owner had the out drives rebuilt by a marina in quincy mass but since the rebuild could not get them into gear. Yesterday I was going over the boat and found the starboard side stern drive cable disconnected from the engine and the starboard side has the pin from the canopy out of place thus blocking the shifter from moving, so I corrected both of these. It seems to shift fine now. But here is my question. I was working on it out of the water with the props raised and the engines off, should it still work OK when placed into the water with the props lowered and engines running.
Thanks
David

View the latest post Attachment(s) Control Knob - What does it do?
- Posted by: sailtosteam » April 30th, 2017, 9:43 pm
- Forum: General Boating Discussion
Hello everyone,
I have a new to me 1997 405. In the aft cabin next to the A/C controls there is a black knob. About 1 1/2" in dia. It can be rotated, but I am not sure what it does or why it is there. It is connected to a black box in the master closet.
Any ideas what this knob is for and how to use it?
Thanks for your help.
Jim

View the latest post Attachment(s) Carver 355 rear platform access
- Posted by: Elliott » April 30th, 2017, 8:21 pm
- Forum: Carver Yachts Forum - Model Discussion
I have written and asked about access to the after section of the platform since I joined this group a year ago after I bought my newer boat.
This all had to do with mounting my Surfjet on the rear, as well as how to reinforce davits etc.
To summarize, I spent 3-4 hours last year by reaching through the access port on starboard, to line up 4 nuts on bolts that were about 25" inside the platform. I used an extension piece of wood with brackets bolted onto my socket wrench so that I would not lose them in the bilge of the platform, as well as a 4 foot piece of rope leading to a cleat.
Carver does not gelcoat the inside of the platform. No body does. My arm eventually looked like a meat grinder had hit it, but I got the job done, strictly by feel of the wrench and nut contacting the protruding bolt.
Any way, that is old news.
The good news I learned this weekend was that behind the bed, on port, there is what looked like a pull tab on the headboard. I followed the design around the cabin and realized that the left side bolster / Valance under the side window has 6 small Phillips head screws (which are murder to get to, as nobody has a tool that small. Then the rear bolster comes out , by slowly peeling it off the velcro, and finally the 2x3 foot panel will pull out as well,
Now the back is open, you can access the cable locker, the auxiliary fuel tank, which I didn't know I had, and the exhausts.
Oh, and my favourite wrench did fall off last year and I really missed that size 1/4. and 3/8 ratchet. It wasn't the money, but it killed me to know it was sitting there on starboard all year and I COULDNT GET TO IT.

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Hi, all! We bought a 1988 Carver 3807 last fall (2016). We plan to retire on it in a few years. It has been very well taken care of over the years & we are very happy to have her. We are based in Brewerton, NY right now on beautiful Oneida Lake. The Erie Canal is close to our marina. We plan to do some traveling along it this summer as there are no lock fees to celebrate the Bicentennial of the start of construction of the Canal.
There is another Carver 3807 in the marina so we have made some new friends already! Can't wait to make many more!

View the latest post Heat exchanger end covers
- Posted by: Ondercin » April 29th, 2017, 10:09 am
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
So last year while putting the boat away I'd noticed a small crack in the cover plate of my heat exchanger (oem part number 44446)
I put the boat in the water yesterday and fired my engines up and noticed a small drip from the end cap. After removing the end cap and getting it home it actually broke in half..
I've been searching the web for a directly replacement of the end cap without having to replace my current heat exchanger.
I've found several on the web but because rubber gasket has a groove right to left in the middle I'm worried if it won't seal properly... Now if that is the case I can use just the new end plate but I'd rather replace the seals and all.
hopefully the picture shows the groove I'm talking about.
