View the latest post Engine Pulleys

Hello, I have the Volvo D6 Diesels. I have been told that I should replace the plastic pulleys that came factory because they are wearing and the replacements are metal not plastic. Just thought I would see if anybody has changed theirs out and the difficulty of the job.
Thanks

View the latest post First trip out and overheated… Quick advice needed

Just closed on my 97 Carver Voyager 370 last week (as mentioned on the meet and greet page). Already received my new deck cushions for front (look great). Already had bottom painted, zincs switched and a few other things sorted.

But… I literally took it out for 20 minutes (taking home from painter) and sure as heck, one of the engines overheated. Not to worry, limped her back to my slip and even though a little difficult on one motor, made it back ok.

Had a mechanic look at it for a second opinion (I'm a pretty descent wrench but new to boats) and as silly as it sounds…the damn radiator cap was a bit rusty and popped off. Made a bit of a mess too but sh** happens. The surveyor did mention I should change out the caps but I didn't know that meant immediately (my mistake).

Anyway, mechanic tells me it's 1000.00 to flush the antifreeze, switch out the small anodes/zincs on heat exchanger and swap out the thermostats. This all looks way too simple to pay anyone $1000 plus parts!

Question is… First, I read the entire manual and looked online. Any trick to flushing these Gas 454's out since I can't just drain them as I would a typical car/truck? Risers were just sorted a year ago so kinda surprised the fluid and such is so bad already but nevertheless, can anyone recommend a good place that won't back order the parts I need such as the anodes, thermostats, under motor diaper and any gaskets?

I'm having trouble finding a site that shows a microfiche as I do when working on my motorbikes but again, really new to this. Thanks in advance for the help!

View the latest post Forward bilge. Pump

Have a 1986 Carver Santa Fe and can not figure out where the front bilge pump goes to ran a 20 foot snake through it and could not find out where it goes. No hoses run out through the hull fitting called carver and they do not know either think it runs water from front bilge to engine compartment bilge. Oh well

View the latest post 2004 carver 466 inverter question

I am just purchasing a 2004 466. while we were on board for the survey and sea trial yesterday, while we were on shore power, I could only get all of the 110 powered devices to operate while the inverter interface was in the on position. Is this normal? In our motorhome, I turn off the inverter when we are hooked to shore power, but the carver only seems to work all of the 110 when the inverter is on, even while on shore power? Does anyone know if this is correct? shore power was working and breakers were on, and was showing 110 on the gauge.

thank you for the feedback

View the latest post New Carver Owner and thrilled!

I just took possession of my new carver this past week. It's a 1997 370 Voyager in great shape. In fact, just had the bottom painted yesterday and waiting for the wind to die down to get it back to the slip. Have to find a new slip as well, current one is just too thin and rubbing up the sides a little.

Looked for quite some time and opted for this one as I loved the space, large fridge, shower area and one of the few boats I can stand up in at 6'4". A little low when you first walk in but that's ok :).

Had a 36' Hunter a while back and loved sailing but figured I can use this one for an extension of our Condo since it's not terribly large. Not just that but old motorcycle injuries make the shoulder a little sore from winching.

She only has about 800 hours on her, already ordered some new canvas, new front cushions and a few little things but the carpet has some stains so being a bit of a carpenter myself, likely going to pull out the carpet and do something else. Not sure if I'll go for that braided vinyl, hardwood or….?

I'm not one to wait to make decisions so I'll likely start tearing out the carpet next week unless I can fight the urge :). Ordered new curtains and tore out the mini blinds, thinking I'll get some of the cloth mini blinds I've seen at Lowes but I'll search for forum first for some solutions.

Anyway, been dabbling around on the net and this forum seems fun so I'll make sure to poke around. I'm new to the area here so if anyone is looking to say hello and lives around Marina Del Rey, would be great to make some new friends. I'm pretty handy and always willing to help anyone in need so drop me a note if I can lend a hand!

Nice meeting everyone!!

Just recived my 1995 33' maniner about 3 weeks ago. Survey and sea trials went well and I am now in dry dock and cant wait for spring. I noted that my props seem tight. Takes 2 hands to turn them. Survey stated they were free when the boat came out of the water. Is this normal ? Also will be happy take any input on this boat like fuel millage standard speed/ rpms.
any info will help as I am new to a boat this size. My last boat was a 24' bayliner (2452)
