Hello all!

it appears that I will take delivery of my 1984 36 Mariner on 18 Jun! I am super stoked and excited :) I would appreciate any input or guidance........She's a touch larger than my 93 Bayliner 2755 that I have...

I would love to install a Teak and Holly Floor in the salon. Are there existing kits for these??

Does anyone know what resides the carpet in the salon? is it fiberglass or is it plywood?

She will be christened "Decompression Tank II" and will reside at Canyon Lake in Arizona.

Thanks!

Bob

View the latest post Volvo Penta MS5A Transmission issue

Hello, anybody out there retro fit any other type of transmission/drive into their boat that matches up with the Volvo penta 740 motor? I have a 1991 33 carver aft cabin cruiser and my transmission is shot. Volvo Penta doesn't make them anymore. I have heard the ZF63a matches up well. Anybody have any experience with this? I'm hoping I don't have to move my engines.

Thanks

View the latest post New 34C Member With Questions

Hi,

I'm In the process of purchasing a new 2014 C34 which is my first ocean boat. I previously owned a Cobalt which was used in fresh water. I'm excited to finalize the purchase and take delivery of the boat. Addindg the 12HDS Lowrance system with 4g Radar as well as an auto pilot system. Any input or recommendations would be appreciated. I Live in Southern California and the boat will be used locally.

Carver appears to be a quality boat and I like the layout of the 34C. I'm a little concerned with the power of the twin 300hp gas engines but from all the feedback I have read the power seems to be adequate. Again any feedback or advice would be appreciated. I chose the boat over a 2007 40 foot Sundancer.

Lastly, I wanted to reach out for some advice in regards to Carver's customer service. The boat I am purchasing has the factory radar tower and had some questions regarding the option. I first called after hours and left a message for customer service. No return call. Next I went online and submitted a contact request last week. Still no response. Is this normal? I love the product but am not used to a company not responding to customers. Any advice or feedback would be appreciated. I love the boat but am hesitant to pull the final trigger if this is how I will be treated.

Thank you in advance for welcoming me into the group!

View the latest post Attachment(s) Aft deck plastic panels

I have a 1994 300 Aft Cabin. I'm looking for replacement panels that go around the aft deck railing. These are the white plastic/plexiglass panels that fit between the safety railings and the deck. I specifically need the one on the port side as well as the one on the stern/port corner. I also need the aluminum corner piece that goes between these two panels.

Any suggestions on where I might be able to get these?

View the latest post Attachment(s) Have A Nice Shower Dear. I'm Borrowing Your Toothbrush.

A good time to clean your shower sump pump, is while your better half is in the shower. Why then? Well, with fresh shower water running into the sump, it will help flush away any soap scum and debris as you do the following.

Remove four screws holding on the lid. The lid easily lifts off. Grab an old toothbrush - not your wife's - I was just kidding - don't even think about it - and do a gentle scrub inside the plastic sump well. See the soap scum build up? It will just pump overboard as you scrub.

You get to visually ensure the float switch and pump are working well, and inspect for clogs. The plastic filter is easily removed, and can be scrubbed out, removing hair or debris. I also used a piece of paper towel pushed inside the filter with the toothbrush, and cleaned it vigorously under hot running water.

After a shower, pour a little Mr Clean or Lysol lemon fresh disinfectant down the shower drain. It will help prevent soap scum buildup in the standing water, because the pump never completely empties the sump well. The yellow colour is a little Mr Clean. It also prevents any stale water odors from that sump.

Now, your spouse is happy and so is your shower sump. Oh, and don't accidentally put that toothbrush back in the washroom, but keep it in your toolbox for other small jobs.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Put New Spark In Your Lovelife

My love affair seemed to be going ok, and she started whenever I asked, but I thought I'd check on the spark that keeps us going. The specs on the Mercruiser 6.2 call for AC spark plugs, #41-932. I haven't had her since new, but with the hours and look of the plugs, I'm guessing these are factory originals.

I plan to love this gal for a few years, so I figured I'd treat her to shiny new sparklers. Gals go crazy for shiny stuff. The 41-932 which I believe were Platinum, are no longer available. The replacement is AC 41-993 Iridium. They were readily available at my local auto parts shop for $9.00 a piece. I think that's expensive, but these are the ones in new cars that go 160,000 km before replacement. They are not supposed to easily foul. I'm trusting that my fuel mileage will be somewhat improved, if not optimum.

I only put in four today, saving the others for another day. Fun reaching up the starboard side of the stbd engine, because I sure couldn't see the plugs. BBQ Dinner got in the way.

4 down. 12 to go.

View the latest post Best Marine Varnish

Who makes it? I've had boats my whole life, but none had any wood so this is not something I know a whole lot about. Back in the day (60's) my Dad had a 26' Owens that was all mahogany, and back in those days it was just a plain old varnish that didn't last very long. I'm sure that in the last 50 years that leaps and bounds have been made in this area especially dealing with UV. What are ya'll using?
