Hello everyone, hope everyone had a great boating season. I am looking for a company that can manufacture a wedge for housing my Garmin 8612xsv and a VHF radio like the picture I found on the internet, but no reference or way to know who made this wedge that looks perfect for what I want to achieve. My Goal to eliminate sun on my 8612 when traveling with the sun on that side of the boat. I will chase down any lead as I have been looking all season. Like most things boating knowing the exact terms for something gives you the best advantage to being successful.

A quick search using , fibreglass marine helm , and variations on that produced a number of hits...... CM marine in Florida came up.

There are many others but my guess here is it will be custom and pricey, good luck with the continued search. I do like that example you showed though it would be a touch better with the instruments angled down a bit for glare.

Boat Outfitters in Ocoee, FL does custom work like this, but I believe they use Starboard and not fiberglass.

I drive by them every day on the way to work, but I don't have any direct experience with them.

Thanks, Bud37, I have reached out to them through their website. I guess I saw them bud did not see where they do exactly what I was after, so I kept searching. If they are able to do it, I will let everyone know.

Yep, I have seen them as well, thanks, Alanna Mo Cree, I have reached out to them through their website as well. It does seem all their work is with starboard. But, if they are able to do it, I will let everyone know.

UPDATE: After some dialog with the people here (Very nice and accommodating by the way). Their designs are more of a flat and squared off screw together type of solution. Here are some pics in case anyone else may be interested. In the end, his last email stated the following (Excerpt only):

"the corners wouldn't be rounded unfortunately since the acrylic or starboard panels will be cut and then screwed together to form the angled box. I can add a 1/4" routed edge so the edges aren't sharp but unfortunately build it with that large of a radius is not currently feasible.

Follow up on CM Marine who stated" All of our products are made from molds. Unfortunately, we do not have a mold for your helm. I'm sorry we can't accommodate your request at this time. "

I am back to trying locals who do fiberglass repairs but, it is not looking good.

Yeh , it was just a hit on a quick search......perhaps consider using just a bit of a pre made unit that fits your need. Maybe there will be a box section you could cut off the premade and then attach to your existing dash area.

That is an interesting thought. I will let everyone know once I find a direction and a plan.

Update on this project. After many people saying no to me, I decided to build this out of plywood, and fit it into place. See pictures below. [image][/image] [image][/image]
I will go out this weekend and see if it achieves my goal of helping keep the sun off of the Garmin screen. If so, I will put some fiberglass on it and gel coat it. If I cannot find a person to do this, I will attempt that as well. So far, I have 70 dollars into it. More to come.
