View the latest post Attachment(s) NEW A/C duct from Salon to FWD berth
- Posted by: tonyiiiafl » July 30th, 2022, 11:22 am
- Forum: The Project Center
A week ago, I fond there was no air coming from the forward berth. Sent to wifi camera in and saw the duct was split halfway through. NO real access. So, I pondered and decided to go in. With no access, So I was getting anxious about this. I was going to run a 2.5” duct through the 3” one, but it is only a shortcut. So, I went in after breakfast this AM.
NOT as bad as thought! The old vent was zip tied inside. I ran a tubing (1/2” brake line) through the old vent, worked the tubing until I was able to pick up the other end that was hanging. I did this by feel. I then picked at the old vent and tore at it as it unraveled into strips. Stuck my arm in and broke the zip ties. Next, ran a fish tape through. Place the new venting over the tubing, while the vent was taped to the fish tape. Pulled vent back with fish tape while it was going through the vastness of behind the head, and reached it from other side. The new ducting was stiffer and insulated, so it did not droop in the middle. The rest is just hooking it up. I need to say my .99 stubby ratcheting Harbor freakish screwdriver saved my bacon.

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
Hi everyone, I am a first time Carver owner, but not new to Carver's, as my Dads cousin, which would make him my second cousin, was the original owner and founder of Carver boats. So I have been around them since I was a little kid. I recently purchased a 1990 Carver Montego with 7.4s and love this boat. We live in Upper Michigan and most or all of our boating is on Lake Superior, and we often visit Isle Royal National park. The Carver Montego was first built in the 80s, I was fortunate enough to take a prototype to Isle Royal with the owner of Carver and my father and fell in love with that model when I was in my 20s. The prototype we took out then did not have a radar arch and was powered by 5.7s but was a great boat. My previous boat was a 1969 Marinette and it served us well. I come from a large boating family and most of my siblings own boats and are avid boaters. We are also avid fishermen and the Montego is a great fishing platform. I am looking forward to reading all your posts for helpful hints and I can be of help as I have been around boats, fixing, repairing, and restoring them my entire adult life. I am familiar with Carver's of the 80s and early 90s. Thanks.

So I replaced all my speakers outside of the cabin when I first got the boat. They were really blown. Now it’s time for the inside 4 speakers. Originally they are Clarion. But, they don’t make this model anymore. I am a fan of original look. I hunted for replacements and came up with Scorche speakers model HD 6504F. I really do not like the grills of these speakers. All I had to do to use the Clarion grills was to bend 4 tabs to allow the Clarions to fit, easy.

View the latest post Attachment(s) Do you recognize these rudder shaft seals?
- Posted by: KyleR » July 28th, 2022, 1:15 pm
- Forum: General Repairs & Maintenance
Upon investigation, I found a small leak from both the port and starboard rudder shaft seals. They appear to be some kind of dripless seal since there does not seem to be any sort of packing gland follower. A google search turned up possibly a "Tide's lip seal" - but I am only basing that on the red "cap" that I am guessing is there to keep debris out. However, with the entire tube fiberglassed up to that metal ring it doesn't exactly look like any of the ones I've found online.
Any one replaced one of these or had it apart? I am guessing haul-out and dropping the rudders, but I obviously would want to have replacement parts ready to go. This is for a 2002 Carver 396. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

- Forum: Introduce Yourself!
I've made a couple of post before but just intro'ing myself. We have purchased a '94 440 Aft. Although I preferred diesel, this one has Crusaders. But for lake use it's just fine.
We are based near Dallas, Texas and spend the weekends at the lake primarily at anchor swimming and hanging out. My prior boat was a '97 Silverton 360 Express so we've made a big jump up in size and living space!
I'm hoping to learn a lot from everyone here and hope to help someone along the way as well. Any tips and trick you have for Carvers, Crusaders, boats in general are always welcome!
Oh, and we haven't picked a name YET but once we do and I get a chance, I'll add details to my signature and some pics. Happy boating everyone!

SOLD: A pair of Garelick folding chairs available for sale. We find them too bulky for our aft deck. They came with our boat when we purchased it. $125 for the pair. We are in Winnipeg but dock in Kenora. They are in pretty decent condition. At least one of the plastic leg covers is missing.

Just curious on everyone's favorite parts source or those that are the most reliable, good price etc. Certainly for basic maintenance items (impellers, etc.) but also for other larger items (hopefully not often!)
Thanks in advance!

Have a Kohler CZ23 would start, run, but quit before engaging power. Was told the main circuit board was the issue ( looked like??). replaced the board. Not the issue. Non returnable...$1200 including labour. Had the unit pulled last Fall. Second shot showed stator failure. Found a stator to match part no. in Florida and had shipped up. Now find the commutator is wrong size and...housing won't fit the drive. So far $2700 into this mess and no further comment from an incompetent marina.
Been shopping personally and can find no interest in re-winding the original stator, no help from Kohler... or any of their dealers. This kind of situation makes me extremely unpleasant. There will be a reckoning.
Not sure what others have gone thru' with this situation, but would like to hear any good news in getting these things running.
Too many safety quirks on the genny for me to deal with ... for now.
