Post Riviera Battery Banks
- Posted by: SunsetSteve » October 12th, 2020, 2:13 pm

On my single engine Albin 25 I had a start battery and 2 golf cart batteries with an ACR distributing the charge. I loved the leave-it-alone aspect and let the ACR make all the decisions, aside from on/off.
Now on my Riv there are 2 Group 27s and a regular old fashioned 1/2/both/off switch, and I have to rely on a 36 year old voltmeter at the helm. The batteries look to me like those not-true-deep-cycle marine batteries.
Should I be satisfied with this setup? What is the group wisdom on retro-fitt ...

Post Auxiliary Fuel Tank

Hi ! I have a 1998 Carver 405 , it has two (2) 150 gallon gas tanks and one (1) 40 gallon reserve. I’m wondering if anyone is familiar on what needs to be done in order to transfer fuel from reserve to main tanks . There is a valve and is currently in the position shown in my photos. The previous owner wasn’t familiar so I’m hopeful someone here might be able to assist. Thanks very much!

According to the local paper, they had an electrical problem while heading across Simcoe. Another reminder to have all your safety gear , jackets, escape plan and learn how to use an extinguisher properly.
Not saying these poor folk did anything wrong at all, just a reminder.....they were rescued from the lake by a passing boater, a little cold but otherwise ok.
There seems to have been a few boat fires this year.

Has anyone replaced the original ventless unit on the 460 Voyager with a vented unit? We have rarely used our unit because it is not very efficient, but with COVID, I'm less inclined to use marina laundry facilities so we are considering options for replacing it. Thank you!

Post Diesel Fuel Tank Cleaning

I have a small issue I think. I believe I have some water in the bottom of my main tanks. Reason I say this is my boat is equipped with a diesel heater which I never really got to work. I pulled it out last year and rebuilt it but still it does not function properly. Played with it for the last couple of days and noticed lots of water in the line therefor giving me a no start fault. Primed the lines until all was clear and then she fired up and ran like a champ for a few hours before I shut her ...

Post Almost Over

My season is just about over. Fact of life up here in the northern climate. All in all a good season considering the Covid situation. Almost all of our boat club activities were cancelled because of the situation.
Friday was the day that I decided to winterize those things i do myself on my Carver. I ran all the water out of the onboard water tanks and then I drained the water heater. Then I used my small air compressor to blow out the water lines. After that I put in 15 gallons of -50* pink stuf ...

Post 3607 Mufflers

Hey all, I have aa 1989 3607 with Crusader 350hp/454's. I'm getting old and cranky and when I pull into my marina there is always a loud boat following me. No wait, it is me, the echo from enclosed spaces bothers me. Has anyone installed mufflers on a 3607? On the starboard side there is room to replace a 4" fiberglass tube in the exhaust, but on the port side it is not a straight shot and is all flexible hose. Anyone done this project before? Any suggestions woud be helpful. I'm looking ...

Post Riviera: draining the plumbing?
- Posted by: SunsetSteve » October 10th, 2020, 8:40 am
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
My new-to-me Riviera 28 is parked in my yard for the winter, but I need to drain the water tank and the hot water tank, and the bilge. According to the manual, there is a bilge drain plug to be found near the engines. Otherwise I will use the shop vac and put some pink in.
The manual doesn't really make it clear how to drain the tanks. Any tips would be appreciated!
I have arranged for the local marina (small boat marina) to come and winterize the engines and shrink wrap the boat.

Post Mystery water in my gray tank!
- Posted by: kkochner » October 9th, 2020, 11:49 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Does anyone have any ideas on how my gray keeps filling up when everything on my boat is off? I drained my fresh water tanks and turned my water pump off and some how my gray tank is still filling up with water!
I have looked and watched it and there is no water actively draining into it...is it possible that it is somehow back filling sea water?
My gray sump pump is currently not working...could that be letting water back flow in?
Any experience or advice greatly appreciated...thanks!
