Post How often should vacuflush pump run?

On my boat we have Vacuflush system. It seems to work well. But I her it run every 7 to 10 minutes or so. Is this normal or should it run once and hold its vacuum?
I will probably rebuild it with new duck valves in the near future but asking just the same.

Thanks

Post Rudder Shaft connection

My Riviera's rudder shaft is firmed up by a flange that is supposed to be bolted to a pressure treated 2x6.

Problem is, there isnt enough wood for the bolt to hold on to.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to fix this? I'm gonna try to attach some pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. I'm sure I will figure something out but figured it is a good idea to see what you all think or if anybody has run into this same problem.

Many thanks,

Pete

Post New to US Carver 530 Voyager owners

Hello everyone! We are now owners of a 1999 Carver 530 Voyager with Cummins 450's. We will be doing many improvements and upgrades over the next year to this boat in preparation for extended cruising coastal & inland waters, as well as The Bahamas.

I hope to reach out to other 530 Voyager owners who enjoy DIY projects on their boats as I do.

Glad to be in this group. and let the work begin!

Post knocking noise when a/c runs

i have an 1987 4227 cockpit motor yacht. Recently started to hear a noise at the back of the boat on the starboard side only when then a/c is running. Sounds like a baffle has come loose. There is a cavity that is inaccessible. Both the starboard engine exhaust and a/c pump line lead to this cavity which is exactly where the noise comes from.
Any thoughts on what this issue is or possible solution would be greatly appreciated.

Post Solar panels

Just ordered our mppt controller. Epever Tracer BN series. Now , just gotta pull the plug on our panels. Going with a 300 watt system. Our problem is choice. Either 3 knock off panel of 110 watts each made with Sunpower cells,225$ tax in each, 3 Sunpower panels of 110 watts each ,249$ each plus tax, or, 1 Tesup panel 260 watts, $470. Anyone hear of Tesup? They are here in Canada. Any input would be great.
Thanks, Andrew

Post Spider Control

Yes there are spiders on boats and lots of them if not controlled. Rick recently posted his shopvac solution to eliminating spiders and figured it is a great topic so here we are.

let's hear your solution.

I have used several spray products over the years. When I leave the boat I lightly spray the dock lines and fenders in hopes of keeping the critters at bay. The trick is finding the right product. I came across it, called Bugtek. https://ca.binnacle.com/p13290/Bug-Tek- ... _info.html

Post Need Advice: To-Be Owner of 85 Carver SantaCruz

Hi all! My husband and I looked at an ‘85 26’ Carver Santa Cruz today. I’m including the description below. We’re pretty excited to be first-time boat owners and were impressed with the boat and the current owner. We live in Bellingham, WA in the San Juan Islands and we’re itching for something to tool around the islands in. Summer is blissful here, and even more so on the islands.

I’m sure it gets tiring to hear from to-be boat owners on this forum asking for advice, but if anyone sees this and ...

Post Head Vent Filter

Question for the crew...

Does anyone out there ever change the head vent 'in-line' filter? Do they age and stop working?

When we flush... phew! The neighbors want to run away! Of course I treat chemically. I wonder if the filter stops working as it is 15 years old.

Also, I am getting smell from behind the refrigerator vent which is next to the galley port light which lives above the head vent. I changed out the rubber gasket around the window so I don't think the smell is from 'outside-in'.

Post Spending The Night Aboard

It's another stormy Friday night aboard the boat. Supposed to be stormy most of the night but tomorrow is supposed to be a nice day. Plan to get the boat out on the waterway tomorrow at least for a couple of hours.
