Post Engine won't start in timing set up

I have a 1991 Carver aft cabin with twin 454 Crusaders. Starboard engine runs fine in "run mode". Wiring harness off distributor has run and time mode where you unplug the connector, rotate wire, replug in to time the engine. (Disables the distributor advance so you can time engine at correct RPM.) When I do this the engine will not start. When I switch back to run mode, starts right up. Not getting spark to plugs in time mode. I have checked all wiring and it appears too be fine. Any ideas ...

Post 396 Pounding at the aft end while moored

Hello All,

I have a 2004 396 (gas engines in case it matters). When I am anchored or moored in a way where waves or wakes come toward the aft end of the boat, they get trapped underneath the swim step and pound badly. It shakes the whole boat, and can make sleeping or even just sitting in a busy anchorage very uncomfortable. I have already gotten confirmation that this is not just on my boat. Has anyone found a solution to the problem? I would consider some sort of attached baffle or diverter, ...

Post V drive alarm

I have a 1988 Carver Montego 3257. Can anyone tell
Me if my boat comes equipped with a low Fluid alarm or a low fluid light that comes in when my v drives are low on transmission fluid?

Thank you!

Post 396 a/c discharge problem?

I've been chasing an issue with water in my bilge that seems to point to my a/c units. In troubleshooting this problem I decided to verify the purpose of all of my above-waterline thru hull fittings (fittings shown in owners manual don't match actual). When I run my a/c units (separately), all three discharge water through the same three fittings. The three locations are port side forward, port side aft, and starboard side aft. Additionally, my aft shower sump also discharges through the sam ...

Post new Carver owners with a minor pre trip issue

Hello, my wife and I are the new owners of a 2003 466 we have just purchased in Sacramento Ca. We are currently waiting for the weather to be favorable to make the trip to our home port in San Diego.Yesterday I found the sump pump started running continuously. Today I changed the float switch and when I turned the breaker on it did the same thing, just runs until I trip the breaker. Looks like I will have some time before the weather changes enough to make the trip so I would like to resolve thi ...

Post To be owner

Hi Carver Owners:

I find the size, design/layout and features of the 2002 Carver 346 Aft Cabin or its successor the 2003-2007 366 very appealing and suitable for the way we anticipate to use it, a floating cottage running short cruise to a calm and quiet cove/bay in an inland lake (Lake Huron) in the summer months. I'm in the market looking for one right now.

However, while talking a broker a couple days ago, I was told to stay away from the 346/366, and was suggested to consider the better run ...

Post Larger fresh water tank-carver 395 aft cabin 2001

Hi Carver Owners. My 2001 carver 395 aft cabin only holds 70 gallons of fresh water and constantly running out. Real pain in the butt. Do any of you know if there is room to either add another tank or place a larger tank in the boat? As a much more costly solution, do any of you have water makers and, if so, what brand and size and how good are they. Thanks, Larry

Post Does the Generator Charge the Genny Starter Battery when running?

May be a dumb question but after being on the hook for 5 days and starting perfectly fine I received an OC error code and the genny would not turn over at all. The generator ran 3-4 times per day charging the house and starter batteries, but I only ran the engines once leaving me to believe that the genny isn't charging its starter battery.

I contacted Carver today and they told me that the genny should charge its starter battery as long as the breaker, but i'm thinking it may not?

The Genny is ...
