Post Which engine?

Good evening fellow boaters, We own a 1973 Carver 2890 Mariner. From what I know and have found out from Carver, is that this model came with a 255 hp engine. It also either came with a stern drive or v drive. Ours has the v drive. My question is what engine came with this boat, Ford or Chevy? This is what Carver told me, but couldn’t give me a definite answer. Years ago, someone removed the original engine and replaced it with a 65 hp Vetus marine diesel. The boat is way under powered. Any info ...

Post Suspected EVC Problem

I am having ignition issues. I have twin Volvo 2005 Penta D6's with EVC (old style, no LED display). The port engine cranks and runs normally. However, it will not shut down via ignition switch. The starboard engine will not even turn over. The EVC panel displays the "lock" light red, Transmission is definitely in neutral. There are no fault displays of any kind.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have tried caver, taylormade marine, pompanette, west marine, local boating and window shops with no luck. The doors are leaking. The glass is 3/16" the channel is 3/4" width and the current glazing is about 1/2" depth. Any thoughts and/or words of wisdom on where to locate glazing would be appreciated. thank you in advance for your help!!

Post Batteries / Battery Charger

Hey Folks I have a question regarding batteries. I borrowed a 'snap on' tools battery tester and I have two batteries that must be replaced. Last season I replaced port starter battery and bow thruster (they are wired in series for extra 'oomph' when engaging thruster). I went with AGM cells because I had read that they have a quick recovery when discharged. I figured this made sense for the thruster. I have recently learned that we should not mix battery types. If wet cell...all wet cells. ...

Post checking and cleaning black water tank sensors

Our 2006 Carver 36 MY was equipped Tank watch 4 system for both tanks. They were not reading correctly, we we wanted to remove and troubleshoot.

This turned out to be extremely difficult as the sending units hadn't ever been removed since new (14yrs ago). Access and room to move was limted

I bought a gas tank fuel pump remover tool ($20 Amazon) to span the sender access tabs in order to un-screw. This allowed the use of a 26" torque wrench, as a 6", then then 16" ratchet did not provide adequ ...

Post Bilge power

so what I thought was a simple bilge pump swap has become more interesting. I have an 89 380 and as typical the wiring was onesplive after another. so while I was working om it I thought I would get back to the original. OK so I have a black (ground I assume) and two thick brown wires (one auto and one manual) and one thin wire. (No idea) I have zero power on anything. the breaker is on and I get power to one terminal on the switch at the helm (also brown wires) The other two switches for ...

Post Exhaust flapper valve replacement, 1990 Santego 3467

Hi all,

The exhaust flapper valve on my starboard Crusader 454 is very noisy. It is inside the exhaust system somewhere, it is not on the exterior of the hull. Is it possible to replace this? Or is the clicking noise normal?

This engine is a Gen 5 454. The original Mark 4 was replaced under warranty early in the life of the boat. I'm not sure if the exhaust was modified or not.

My port engine had a top end overhaul a couple of years ago according to the prior owner. The mechanic changed the exhaus ...

Post Wiring Voyager cams to MFD

Have any Voyager owners taken the original Voyager-brand engine room and cockpit cameras and wired into the Furuno NavNet VX2? A few questions... Are the existing cameras only black and white or is it just the old CRT monitor? Is adding the video card to the VX2 straightforward? Can you add two cards to one MFD? Mine is a 2001 530. Thanks!
