Post Question for the folks with gas engines

I hear many different reasons for how much or how little stabilized gasoline to leave on the boat during hibernation.
I have been leaving about 3/4 of a tank of fuel. I am doing this because it is what the Marina did where I purchased the boat. I don't know why they do this.
What is your approach and why. Thanks.

Post Carver 36MY waste tank capacity

My wife and I have a 2006 Carver 36MY

The owners manual diagram says there's (2) 25-gal waste tanks, but the specification sheet says 36-gal total?

It would appear to us that the aft tank "fills up" quicker than the salon tank under the galley storage area.

Anyone have a definitive answer to this ? are both tanks rally the same size, but in our case 18 gal rather than 25 gal? or are they staggered in size, due to our 36MY floorplan and that aft tank is smaller, possibly only 11 gals?

Our aft tank ...

Post Gas additives for an aluminum tank?

So I filled both gas tanks in the late Spring. Figured we would burn all the fuel in both tanks a couple of times over, during the summer. We didn't and I still have 60 gallons in both tanks. I have a starboard aluminum tank that was replaced in 2012 and an original (88') on the port. I didn't put any type of fuel additive in the tanks when I filled up. What would ya'll recommend using for winter layup and/or everyday use? Our fuel is 89 octane, non-ethanol. I guess my main concern is water / co ...

Post 396 Transport from Landlocked Lake to Pacific, Pictures

In my quest to purchase my 396 I had little luck finding good info on what was required to disassemble for transport load height. Over the last few weeks I successfully got it out of a landlocked lake in northern New Mexico and it was Splashed two weeks later in Southern Ca. In the end I was under budget and with some luck had no real issues. Here is how it went:

1) Disassembled/loosened everything possible before having it pulled from the lake, isinglass, canvas, bridge seating, removed all ...

Post New Inverter/House Bank

Hi everyone!

I have been busy for a few weeks on and off installing a new house bank in the 3867 Santego (just in time for winter storage  )

I chose Firefly Oasis 4v 450ah L16 style batteries for the house bank. Since the boat is 12v, the 4v will produce 12v once wired in series and maintain the 450ah of each battery. These are ly 100lb a piece so I am slightly worried about creating a list - even more so considering the inverter/charger will also go on the same side.

The previous charg ...

Post Pink Stuff Facts

Time to shop for the pink stuff for some and getting closer for others.

Pink stuff is not all the same. Most of if not all the cheap stuff you find at your big surface hardware stores contains alcohol. This is fine for your potable water system however not the best for engines as it will dry out rubber such as hoses, o-rings and impellers. You want to use polypropylene glycol which is motor friendly and remains 100% non toxic even in your water system. I am cheap so I use the good stuff in the e ...

Post Just signed up, searching for my next boat

Hello fellow boaters!
My name is Ken. I am retired Coast Guard Aviator and retired licensed yacht captain. I worked for several large yacht brokerages as a teaching/delivery captain. One of those was a new Carver dealer. I have had a lot of experience running Carvers from 32ft up to 53ft, teaching new owners how to operate their boats, everything from flushing the head to docking, navigation, routine maintenance ect.

I am now in the market for my very own Carver. Having been cruising sailors for ...
