Post Changing Styles

Happy Mothers Day, My wife and I just purchased a 89 3227 Convertible to keep on Lake Michigan. Our previous boat was a 87 Sea Ray 30 Weekender that did us well (up for sale). We wanted a little more room for overnighters and fish. As most of us know that own older boats, sharing info is key to keeping cost down. I look forward to gaining insights from members here and sharing what I learn (only the good ones). Cheers, Mark

Post Trim Rings for Saloon Lights for 2004 Carver 466

I'm sure this has been covered many times before. Where can you purchase the replacement lights and gold and silver trim rings found in most models. Recently replaced all lights to LED's and what a great improvement. Had trouble with some of the trim rings going back on and a couple broke.
Thanks for the help. This is such a great resource.

Post Adding hydrofoil to Dinghy?

Looking for feedback as to if adding a hydrofoil finn will improve ability to plane on my 11' Dinghy (Walker Bay 310)? At times when I have a couple passengers the 15hp Yamaha 2 stroke struggles to plain at all and was wondering if adding one will help? Seems to be mixed reviews online from what I have been reading.

Hope all is well and take care,

Post Hola

Hello!

I’m buying a 1996 355 this week so look out if you see me in GA and use caution for a week or two lol. I’ll figure it out after that:)

Post Cellular Booster

The VHF thread got me thinking about cell boosters for the boat. Is there anything out there that improves weak signals that actually works?

I think the problem is the antenna needs to be omnidirectional since the boat is obviously changing directions constantly. I get fair to excellent signal everywhere I boat so it's not like I'm looking to boost a non existant signal. More like improving fringe signals.

Post Fridge advice.

Our fridge has seen better days, due a major servicing or replacement. Coolant seems gone, thermostat fell apart, compressor starts showing the signs of corrosion.

I was wondering does it worth to hire someone to overhaul the system, when I get a fully functional -maybe more efficient(!) new built-in unit for $500?

Post Need help with skinny on Carvers

Hello all,

Newbie here. We are sailors now hoping to change over to power. Love the 40 foot cockpit Carvers but need to learn more. Interested in around 2000 year with diesel engines.

Any archelles heals to look for? Have heard varying opinions about quality so would like to hear from the owners here. Was looking at Beneteau but hate the fake woodwork and overpriced. Love the Carver cockpit design and 40 layout.

Still haven't figured out the 40x code, ie 404 405 etc.

Thank you for your guidance.

Post What is a reasonable Annual maintenance allowance for 1992 350 aft cabin?

Wife and I are first timers. We have had ski and pontoon boats but nothing larger. We are looking at a 1992 350 aft cabin. It appears to be in good shape and well maintained by the three owners. I understand the two questions below depend on lots of factors but just looking for some general information as a starting point. Two questions:

1- Hour meters on the two Mercruiser 454 engines show 930 hours. What is the useful life of these engines and what are the engine parts that will need attention ...

Post Window Removal, aft sliders

Hi all, I am looking for help on how to remove the aft, port side slider window on my 1997 325 Carver in order to replace the zip pile since its mostly gone and moss is growing in it. I took all the exterior screws out of the frame, however, nothing I do will budge the frame to come off. Are there other screw I don’t know about or is it just the adhesive holding the window in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to break or chip the gel coat. Thank you
