Post A/C stops A/Cing....
- Posted by: 650Guy » June 10th, 2019, 5:59 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
So project 1 of 5 done and now I’m on to my A/C issue and would love all your input as honestly, it’s been invaluable!
Here is what I’m seeing:
* ac will fire up and run swimmingly for an hour, may even 3 or 4 hours... but then it stops. The fan still blows, and according to the panel it’s calling for cold air, but the water pump turns off and no cold air??
My first thought is the water pump is bad, and once the pump stops the AC shuts off, but I get no HPF error or anything.
On a side note, it ...

Post 454 Crusader XL Starting/Starter Issue
- Posted by: 390Express » June 10th, 2019, 5:33 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
Port motor starts and runs great, lights gauges etc. barely flicker when I push the start button. Everything seems normal there. Starboard motor, however, really draws a ton of current. It will stall the port motor completely if it doesn't start right away, the lights dim like an exorcism, even when it's hooked up to the charger, and the gauges go wonky (ping and bottom out completely). I thought I may have got a crappy starter from DB Electric, causing the current draw, but I swapped starte ...

Post Potable Water Made Drinkable
- Posted by: Midnightsun » June 10th, 2019, 3:47 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Not many drink their water on board however I have done so on all my boats. Never has anyone been ill or felt bad and this includes all my guests on board so I must be doing something right.
Key here is to disinfect/sanitize the system which means all lines and the tank which is rather easy. Best way when the water heater is bypassed as this will do both hot and cold lines. I normally just add some water to my tank then add about 2 cups of liquid chlorine and then fill the tank full again. ...

Post Hot Water Foaming Every Spring Launch
- Posted by: Midnightsun » June 10th, 2019, 3:14 pm
- Forum: AC/Heat, Plumbing & Sanitation
Ok, I have been boating for most of my adult life and finally I will ask this question since I am stumped. Every spring when we fill the water tank it seems like there is all kids of ait mixed in on the hot water side. Seems to "foam" up for several tanks before it eventually disappears.
Question, does anyone know why it does this and if so is there an easy way to commision the system to minimise this. I asked a few people around the docks and everyone says it is normal so I cannot be the only on ...

Post Cummins Fuel Burn Table
- Posted by: zoomiej » June 10th, 2019, 3:01 pm
- Forum: Diesel Engines/Transmissions
396, Cummins 370's - I am wondering if anyone has developed a table for the 396 on fuel burn through power settings.
Before the "depends" response, I would make the following assumptions:
1. fuel and water load would be recognized
2. souls on board with gear would be "normal"
3. Sea State would be low to moderate (1-3)
4. tide/current conditions would be minimal (slack)
As well, I am looking for opinions on best cruise speed.
I apologize up front for being a little direct, but as we all know, this topi ...

Post Weird Wire
- Posted by: Craig_B » June 10th, 2019, 12:31 pm
- Forum: Electrical
.
This might be a weird question........
So I was poking around finding out what does what in our new to us 1988 Santego.
Under the galley sink is an inverter with a single orange "extension cord" plugged into it.
I followed the wire down the starboard side until it disappeared and I have no idea what its for or where it goes.
If I turn off the inverter or unplug the orange plug nothing changes.
I think this is probably a long shot but does anybody have any idea what it may be for?
Thanks

Post Broken wire at alternator
- Posted by: Craig_B » June 10th, 2019, 8:51 am
- Forum: Electrical
Took our 1988 Santego out for its first real run since we purchased it this spring.
Had to change the float switch for the bilge pump and while I was crammed into the engine bay I noticed the main battery wire to the starboard engine alternator has rotten away.
I assume since it was already installed it will be ok to repair and reconnect it?
This is my first twin engine boat so I am being overly careful and asking lots of questions before doing any repairs that may have unexpected results.
If anyone ...

Post Kohler Genny Impellor Fried???

Had the marina summarize everything engines, water, genny etc and on the hook went to fire up the genny and got a "LOC" error code. Turns out the impeller had 2 fins left so needs replacing, heaven forbid they let me know??
Mechanics at the marina said I should backslash as most of the fins are MIA?
Anyone think this is necessary??

Post V Berth Lights

The two pivoting LED lights in the V berth over the bed are not working. Checked with a volt meter and there's no power going to them? Any one have a wiring diagram, or secret power switch location? The other pot lights in the room work fine?

Post 1994 Mercruiser stumbling above 2700
- Posted by: tonyiiiafl » June 8th, 2019, 4:17 pm
- Forum: Gas Engines/Transmissions
1994 Carver 390 CPMY with mercruiser 7.4L carb engine. The carb was rebuilt by the marina this past winter. When I brought it home, it would get up to around 3800 and that was it. I also noticed a slight vibration/shudder akin to a misfire. I did a shake down run today. Seems OK up to 3200 then the engine sync gauge was a little sporadic. With that shudder, that was on the port side. I dropped anchor and changed the gas filter. No improvement. Now it is smooth as heck up to 2000. However, once a ...
