Post Marine Fridge 12V vs Regular 115V with inverter

Ok Guys, I discovered the fridge on my 38 convertiable was 115v only (must have been replaced by previous owner or maybe never was 12v) after my first year of use. I like to have my fridge working when im out and im not running the generator all the time to do it.

I can buy a bar fridge many places for cheap and put it on an inverter. The whole package might cost $450. When i looked at the dedicated marine 12v fridge they are like $1200 !!

Has anyone used a regular fridge on an inverter?? If so h ...

Post TV replacement

I took a cue From SMcGuckins post on replacing his TV. Here is how I went about it. A little different than his approach but worked for me. I was able to pull the trim off and cut it to size. This also enabled me to take out the old TV and it’s mount. The first picture shows the opening with one side cut. I also cut the other side. A 32“ TV fits well in my case. I cut the trim around the old TV so that just the top and bottom were put back on. The image of the new cabinet is blurry.

Post Inverter

The charge side of inverter is not operative while on generator power. The charge side works while on shore power. The only obvious difference is that the shore power is through a power isolator. I am wondering if the inverter is sensitive to the exact voltage being supplied? Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Post Finally found it!!

For a couple YEARS now I've been looking around for a Navionics card which I was SURE I had but could not find anywhere. Searched the boat, searched the house thinking I had one more card somewhere. I have two for two different units on the bridge (a plotter and a fishfinder/plotter) but I have another plotter at the lower station that needs a third one. Thought I had one at one point but could not find it.

This weekend on a rainy day were were cleaning the inside of the boat. I actually ...

Post 3607 New storage spot

Putting in a new HVAC system, I had to disassemble the cabinetry in the aft cabin. Found out where there was a blank panel in the bottom spot of the cabinet where there were two drawers above and there's available space behind that spot.

Put a couple hinges on the bottom of the panel and put a drawer pull on it to look like the two drawers above it. The hinges are spring loaded so they will hold it shut without a latch. There's about a cubic foot of space behind there. Just need to line it ...

Post Winterizing The Coffee Machine?

Odd topic this time of year however worth mentioning.

Got a fancy Nespresso Vertuo Plus coffee machine for the boat last year. Found out the hard way you cannot leave them in freezing weather as the steam chamber is always full of water so it will burst during the winter. Had to unnecessarily plop down $200 to replace it and that was on sale!

Just a heads up to others to remove it from the boat as part of winter storage. ;-)

Post New Member and Carver owner

Hello,
We just got back from looking at and putting money down on a Carver!!!!

The yacht is a 1980 3326 Voyager. !!!

We thought it looked in good shape with many updates.
We look forward to meeting new people and enjoying our new to us boat.

We have a 187 xl Chaparral 1989 model we bought new, so we are not new to boating, but new to the larger boats.

Post Sump for 530 Voyager

Hi all, thanks for the wealth of information over the past year!

Looking to replace my sump pump and float switch. The wiring had somehow come out of the switch at the housing. So I'm having to use a utility pump to clear it and keep the bilges clean.

Can anyone recommend or point me to a direct drop in replacement for the pump and switch?

Thanks in advance!!

Post Alternator issues

My port alternator showed 11 volts on the gauge yesterday on a sixty mile trip. It showed 12 on the gauge with the generator running today on a 40 mile trip. I put a multimeter on it this evening and it is producing 13.7 volts. The starboard is producing 14.7. The battery charger was pumping amps last night indicating that it had some real charging to do.

Time to replace? Anything else I should check? The belt is fine and the alternator is spinning normally, just producing less voltage than the ...
